Sciatic pain - any thing to be done?

Up until about 3 days ago, I was happily walking 4 miles a day and feeling pretty good for 34 weeks. But since then I've had awful lower back and sciatic pain (down my upper left leg). Climbing stairs is agony, and I can barely hobble a few metres let alone a few miles.

I'm trying to do 20 minutes of prenatal yoga every morning and rest more. And I've just started trying heat packs.

Is there any point going to the doctor? It's unbearable to think this might go on for 8 weeks of DD is late.

Ice packs probably better, yes it is worth finding an osteopath that is qualified to treat the pregnant, it's probably not try sciatica but this other thing that I suffer from and was far worse in pregnancy.

Can't remember the name sorry but hurts across your buttock all tells way down to your foot and really HURTS!

Try clam exercises, going up the steps sideways, keeping your legs together and swinging out of the car. Doc can refer you to physio but it might take a while. They can also prescribe you medication-I took some when pregnant as the pain was just too much.
Hope it goes soon x

Pigeon pose works wonderfully on sciatica. Don’t hold it for more than 10-20 seconds though

eddiestanleys · 27/05/2019 18:43

I had acupuncture for mine

RMarieClaire · 27/05/2019 21:19

@nuggles ha - not sure I could get into pigeon pose for 1 second

Thanks @RandomMess - think I'll try to get a doctors appointment and hope it goes away while I wait (my GP is dire). Baby is breach so really need to be moving around but it just hurts to do anything other than stand still

I had that. Definitely go to the doctor. I was referred to an osteopath and the relief was amazing.

RandomMess · 27/05/2019 21:23

Acupuncture is great too!

I found slowly rotating in big circles on my birthing ball helped.

Find a chiropractor or osteopath who treats a lot of pregnant women. If baby is breech there will be even more pressure on your low back, you have my sympathy!
In the meantime try ice at the very top of your buttock on the affected side and also try releasing the muscles in your buttock on that side. Avoid any backwards bending or reaching high overhead. Try to be mindful not to sit with Legs tucked up or crossed.

Osteo.

Falafel19 · 27/05/2019 23:39

Go for a deep tissue massage, no point going to gp.

Refilona · 27/05/2019 23:43

I had it for a couple of days and then it went away - fingers crossed it’s the same for you.

RMarieClaire · 28/05/2019 20:43

Thanks all. Got myself an osteo appointment this week. It takes a week at least to get a GP appointment near me so not even bothering. Really hope they can sort it!
