I'm 34 weeks and breach. OB said that there is a better than even chance that he'll turn. By 36/7 weeks the likelyhood starts to seriously decline and by 39 weeks is more likely than not to stay head up.
Mine has NEVER out his head down though, so am not holding out much hope.
You know all about leaning forward/time on all fours/rotating hips/walking etc etc?

helenelisabeth · 20/07/2007 19:20

My friend was breech then transverse then breech again! She had her daughter naturally this morning but was told baby was transverse yesterday and was booked in for c-section today! She went into labour last night and had no problems whatsoever.

Her baby was breech up until 37 weeks and still turned.

I think it has a lot to do with how much fluid you have also as the baby can move easier.

Hope all goes well for you missy.

missyhols · 20/07/2007 19:23

Yeah have heard I'll start giving it a go. Dd1 was always head down and never moved. Does it hurt if they turn? You must feel it?

What date are you due Missy? I am due 7 September.

missyhols · 20/07/2007 20:58

I'm due on 23rd but baby measured bigger by week and half but my hosp wouldn't change date as its under two weeks. Grrr.

I am 35 weeks today and baby is breech. Have been doing a lot of the forward leaning stuff for the last couple of weeks but it feels the same. Have a scan on 31st (36+4) to confirm position.

I am so hoping it turns as I really want a home birth this time.

There have been a lot of threads on this and a commonly recommended site with loads of info on positions is Spinning Babies

Oooh my fingers are crossed for you! X

dd2 was breech at 32 weeks, I had a scan at 34 weeks and she had turned, I think she turned about 33 weeks.

In our May 07 antenatal thread at 32 weeks there were about 12 breech babies, we were all worried naturally.
Not one was breech by term, they all turned!!

Ceolas · 20/07/2007 22:18

Oh good news mrsjaffa!

I feel all the kicks down low - nothing much above my belly button. So I'm pretty sure it's still head up.

trying to think positively though.

missyhols · 20/07/2007 22:25

Funny you say that. I'm getting the kicks really low and the pressure on my pubic area (how funny did that sound) is loads its actually getting quite painful. I have huge lump in my rib cage too but getting few punches thrown at me too. Lol.

Ceolas · 20/07/2007 22:52

I can identify with the lump in the ribs. Not kicks in the ribs as I've had with previous pregnancies.

And the pressure in my bladder...

missyhols · 21/07/2007 09:00

Odd isn't it. Do you get pains in pubic area when you stand up after sitting for a while, or standing and walking for ages or when you get up first thing? Could just be me but god it hurts the bum feels so low!

Anyone else getting violent kicks to the cervix? Ouff it hurts!

Homebird8 · 23/07/2007 17:16

Hi missyhols,

My first was still turning after his due date! I'm not big either (5'2" and size 6) and his dad is a big 6'3" bloke. There's no accounting for them (babies). He eventually came out head down (baby of course) but it was a bit touch and go to know which way up he would be when I went into labour!

MrsMar · 23/07/2007 17:18

I hope you manage to get your baby to to turn missyhols... I'm quite interested in threads like this as I'm convinced my baby is breech currently, but no one agrees with me. I'm 31+ 5 and the midwife was a bit ambivalent about it at my last check up. I had a huge bulge out under my bottom rib on the left side last week, I can still kind of feel it and I'm sure it's his head. I also get really big thumps to my cervix, it makes me jump. Both my mum and sister keep saying not to worry and those kicks could be his head bumping my cervix, but I'm not so sure. He's either going to be a real nutter (literally) or the next Lennox Lewis if he's not breech, cos they're big thumps! I've never had any movement above a point about two inches below my belly button. It could be that I'm quite tall or I have a pelvis like a bucket and he's sitting really low! I wish someone would tell me definitely what position he's in, I don't want to start the whole on all fours thing to try and move him if he's already head down, on the other hand if he is breech I'd like to start doing something about it now!

Annie75 · 23/07/2007 19:15

Yeah, I think the sooner you start doing all those pelvic tilts etc the better as you've more amniotic fluid for the baby to move round in. I was just casually told not to worry about it at a 32 week scan, but now I'm nearly 38 weeks and it's not turned and my stomach feels as tight as a drum, so I'm anticipating there's not much room for manoevere. I can honestly say that since 34 weeks I've tried virtually everything bar ECV (which I'm having on Thurs) - and am about to try a homeopathic remedy so will let you know.

Am particularly annoyed as I really wanted a home birth and they get all funny about it with a breech.

One move I tried recently which def resulted in some squirming about and which might have been more successful had I tried it when I'd more room in there, is one where you lie on the floor, propping your bum and pelvis up on 4-5 pillows so it's at an angle, with your legs bent. I def felt a lot of movement (but pick a time when you know the baby is more active). Before that, I was trying the pelvic tilt with my body up an ironing board (!) but that felt less successful.

But, having said all this, general consesus seems to be plenty of time for the baby to turn... Sorry, can bore for Britain about this subject as I've looked into it a lot

BetsyBoop · 23/07/2007 19:32

my DD was breech until 38+6 & was born at 39+4 weighing 8lb 8.5oz, so they can & do turn late, even big babies.

dal21 · 23/07/2007 19:34

Mine was breech at last appt and scan - was just over 28 weeks and obs was not too concerned. am seeing midwife on weds so will ask her on her opinion (am just past 30 weeks) and am convinced it hasnt turned as all movements are under my bellybutton. Have started to try and sit in better positions including lying tilted in the evenings. am also going to try and talk to LO and ask it to cooperate!!
