Me and my partner are trying to conceive. We had unprotected sex for the first time 13 days ago. (unprotected sex for the first time not sex ha ha). I am 4 days late on my period. Two days ago I started to get period cramps that were no where near as painful as normal but were there, I’ve also had an orange / yellow discharge the last two days. (I have spoken to the doctor and they have told me it’s not an infection). We did a pregnancy test this morning which was negative however the doctor advised us to wait another week before taking one as she thought enough time hadn’t passed. So far, there has been no bleeding, just more discharge than normal and slight cramping. We are really excited and hopeful to conceive so I am trying not to symptom spot. I was just wondering if any one has any similar experiences or knowledge on whether this is likely to be pregnancy?
Thanks to any helpers ☺️

Ok. A few basics: these all sound totally normal to me. Sperm can live for up to five days to fertilise an egg. The egg only lasts about 24 hours once you ovulate, so there is only a small window each cycle when sex could lead to pregnancy. It can then take 6-12 days for implantation to happen. A couple days after implantation is generally when you'd get a positive test.

So you may be pregnant and it's too early to test, or you may not be pregnant.

You have a max 20-30% chance of conceiving each month. Not all eggs will be fertilised and not all fertilised eggs will implant. This means that 80% will conceive in a year and 90% within two years.

Not a single person can tell if you're pregnant or not. Negative tests mean either you aren't or it's too early to tell (or have pregnancy symptoms because a negative test means the hcg hormone is too low to be causing any symptoms either). You need too chill out. You might get a positive test tomorrow or in a year, and there's no way to tell when.

If there have been any changes in your routine (like the excitement of ttc) this can delay ovulation which would delay the start of your period (or when you'd get a positive test). Most women ovulate 11-16 days before the start of their period. You are highly likely to get a positive test around the time your period is actually 'due' from two-ish weeks after you ovulate. The time between ovulation and the start of af is pretty static for each individual, which is why many women track ovulation.

You might find some more info and tips over on the conception board. Please take vit d and folic acid.
