Advice for someone who struggles with sleeping on their side...

I’m a ‘back’-sleeper and i’m finding it very difficult to learn to get comfortable on my side. I will always wake up through the night to find myself on my back, even if i’ve attempted to fall asleep on my side.

Especially as it’s been warmer, I find sleeping on my side really hot and uncomfortable. Has anyone had this and have some advice?

I’m early days, first trimester still but trying to get used to it now as I hear when you get bigger you shouldn’t sleep on your back.

Thank you in advance 😊

Yes I’m the same! I got a full body maternity pillow after reading recommendations but find it’s so hot I struggle to sleep with that too. I put a regular pillow between my legs and try putting one behind my back to try stop me rolling which usually helps. I still find myself on my back but try and get on my side again when I wake up. Hoping as my bump grows I will find it harder to lay on my back

A really good pregnancy pillow has helped me, though I do still sometimes wake up on my back. I have the BB hug me. Expensive but I’ve found it really worth it. I was really struggling with sleep but not so much now. Also, in terms of being too hot, get a decent fan.

Trust me, when it's necessary to sleep on your side, you won't have any choice other than to anyway as it's so bloody uncomfortable on your back. Get yourself a good firm maternity pillow to help support yourself (a long one you can wrap around you and hook a leg over etc)

I've started craving sleeping on my back even though I barely did before I was pregnant. I put a cushion behind me to sort of lean against so it feels a bit like I'm sleeping on my back.

Sleep whatever way feels comfortable now there’s no point torturing yourself until it’s necessary! I’m a front sleeper when I’m not pregnant but can get quite comfy on my side when needs must. You’ll adapt when you need to just try and sleep whatever way you can right now. Pregnancy is hard enough you’ve got to find your comfort where you can.

I was completely the same - though a front sleeper.

I have a full wrap maternity pillow, which really helps, as it basically makes it impossible to lie on your back. I got it from Amazon and Can't recommend it enough. It gives you something to support you and even though I can't wait to be back on my belly again, I've found sleeping OK.

As someone else has said, you don't technically have to for a few more weeks but it's worth getting used to before you're forced to only side sleep.

Hi everyone,
Thank you all so much for your advice! I had another night of bad sleeping, trying to sleep on my side. It looks like I need to invest in a good maternity pillow. I’ll get one after I know everything is okay at the 12 week scan.
And yes I will definitely be buying a fan 😃!
Thank you!!

I am a front sleeper and due to this infernal bloat have not been able to sleep on my stomach

I have been on on my side though but i don't think i get such a good sleep. Before pregnancy i couldn't sleep on my side at all due to shoulder pain. I reckon with these pregnancy hormones they've relaxed my ligaments. My midwife helpfully informed me this would wear of by 16 weeks. I hope not!

What permaculture pillows are the best? I'm worried I'll get too hot.
