I found out I was pregnant last weekend so 5 weeks tomorrow after our first month trying. I feel so unprepared and terrified- does anyone have any words of advice?! I'm 30 but first baby and so many worries from the pregnancy symptoms, feel sick thinking about the labour bit and then what on earth to do when the baby arrives as well as anything going wrong! I know im so lucky to have got pregnant so quickly so please don't think I'm not happy as I am just terrified!

You have nine (ok eight) more months together used to the idea Grin so don't worry - get lots of rest and enjoy the excitement. Many congratulations x

Totally normal!

Talk here, to friends and family and you'll find that overwhelmed feeling is really common.

Take care of yourself. Be as healthy as you can, if you don't have experience with babies educate yourself and again talk to people who've had babies but you'll surprise yourself how quickly you figure it out.

Childbirth - also totally normal to worry about. I worried too but Labour wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be, more tiring than anything although (disclaimer) did end up emcs but I'm sure others will be happy to reassure on vaginal birth. I had no pain relief until a cs was looking pretty certain and I'm a wimp! Grin

It would actually be more worrying if you WEREN'T feeling wary.

Congratulations Thanks

@AlyssasBackRolls @Graphista
Thanks so much ladies it's really reassuring! Just so surreal but I guess I haven't even known for a week yet! Looking on here at the amount of people that have mc as well is scary so paranoid about that but appreciate hearing all the positives! Got my first midwife appointment on the 18th June which feels ages but imagine it will all come round too soon!! Not prepared financially either and just come back from holiday so paying that off so need to get some hardcore saving done!!

I've had 2 mc but pregnancy 3 is the towering grumpy 18 year old in the next room now! Grin

I have endo and had problems since my periods started.

There are things you can do to reduce risk of mc, but some causes you can't do anything about or there's unknown causes.

Pointless worrying about it as that will make no difference. Instead focus on being healthy and relaxed.

2/3 pregnancies DON'T end in mc. Stay positive.

Congratulations OP! My DS is 8 weeks old so from my own recent experience I would say to not pay too much attention to people who tell you that you'll definitely feel a certain way at different points in your pregnancy. I felt ill throughout my first trimester and was desperately waiting for the second when I was promised I would feel amazing and suddenly transform into a glowing swishy-haired sex machine. I was then v disappointed when I felt no different to how I had, just larger and more tired! Then the same people told me the third trimester is awful and I felt great! There is no set time line for how you will feel. Also, prepare yourself for unsolicited birth stories, usually bad ones. It seems that some people feel compelled to share these, often second or third hand - if this happens to you then tell them to kindly jog on! FWIW I had a great labour, unfortunately despite being the majority of cases these seem to be discussed the least. Good luck! Flowers

@Lastbustowhitehawk
Thank you :) you definitely hear the horror stories and I should definitely not have googled things! Already diagnosing myself with miscarriages ectopic or stillbirth which are all horrific! I have tried to avoid this though and know that it is unlikely. I think everything was too easy so feel as though something will go wrong as it doesn't seem fair with so many people trying for ages! I appreciate great labour stories!! I'm so hopeful that I take after my mums pregnancies which were really straight forward with limited symptoms and she felt great throughout but know this may not be the case. Congratulations on the birth of your baby :)

So true about different experiences at different stages.

First trimester with dd was fraught with worry due to the previous mc, I had some bleeding, horrific nausea (but was never actually sick weirdly), fainting, food/smell aversions, migraines....

Second trimester I just felt knackered! The nausea went though as did most other worrying symptoms.

3rd trimester - when most are feeling pretty shit/knackered/bloated I felt great! Had more energy, slept ok... until near the end.

Friends/family have variously had great first trimesters, rotten 2nds, great 3rds which is generally the opposite to what is most often reported which is that middle trimester is easiest.

Everyone is different.

My mum pretty much sailed through pregnancy and popped us all out like shelling peas! Didn't even know she was pregnant with me until over 4 months gone.
