I was quite sick in my first few months of pregnancy, seemed to stop around 16-20 weeks. Since Sunday I have been sick 3 times, violently sick too and feeling very sicky today, just seems a matter of time before it happens again. I am waiting for a midwife to call me (mine is on holiday) but didnt know if anybody has experienced this. I am trying so hard to eat aswell as my appetite has completely gone.

Poor you Joe1, are you sure you haven't got a bug? I think its quite common for pg nausea to resurface about this time, I remember my SIL (honeybunny) started a thread on this at the end of her pg.

As I have mentioned i have had sickness all the way through and I think its exacerbated by the tiny space left for my tummy - indigestion always makes me feel sicker so Gaviscon helps.

I have also lost my appetite although I think again thats down to tiny stomach space (I feel like I've had that tummy stapling operation).

Try to rest and drink plenty of water, if you are still being violently sick by the end of the day maybe go see your GP?? x E

Joe1 · 15/08/2002 12:25

Thanks Enid. I am drinking lots, especially milk so hopefully baby getting some goodness from that. I just worry now that baby not getting what it needs etc, not having energy as not eating to entertain ds, I suppose all normal mum worries.

Im sorry you are still being sick too. Im not getting much heartburn or indigestion so havnt taken Gaviscon this time, although it didnt work at all last time with constant heartburn.

If I havnt heard from a midwife by this afternoon I will be phoning my GP, just dont want to start taking any tablets.

Hi Joe1

I am 30 weeks pregnant, and suffered with bad morning sickness from about week 6 to week 15. I started being sick again last Monday. I don't seem to have the terrible nausea like the early sickness, I am just sick. I think it might be to do with the lack of room like Enid mentioned. I am eating a lot less now...

I hope the Doctors app. goes well.

CathB · 15/08/2002 13:12

Joe1, sorry to hear you are being sick again, I think you have suffered more than enough with it. I am at about the same stage, but was not sick early on but have started throwing up now, generally in the middle of the night, it seems to be half reflex (coughing etc) half heartburn related. I have taken to eating little and often, which is helping a bit plus crunching indigestion tablets (cant bear the texture of gaviscon). If you are worried about nutrients etc ehat about sports type drinks with glucose etc, as its all fairly rapidly absorbed- your pharmacist might know.

Joe1 · 15/08/2002 14:18

Seems it is the norm then, just didnt have it with ds. Last night seems to have been a mixture of heartburn and coughing, so looks like it is to do with lack of space. I am feeling a little better as the day is going so will try and have a sleep with ds in a little while, maybe felt sicky today due to throwing up my dinner. It was a lovely dinner too, vegetable lasgne full of lovely fresh veg. My midwife has recommended sports drinks before, the soft ones, so will have to get dh to get me some on his way home later.

In a way it feels good that I am not the only one going through this and am now worrying alot less, thanks everyone.
Not long for any of us now, who will be first?

Joe1, you poor thing. I remember being so violently sick when I was in the late stages of pregnancy that I actually worried I was going to have a heart attack as I felt I could actually feel the strain it was putting on it. I had this everyday (the result of very bad heartburn), and despite being able to eat & drink absoloutely nothing apart from water (very little as I would even throw this up!) and wholemeal pasta with nothing on it, my baby was completely healthy and a very good weight. I know how depressing it is, because you feel like every mouthful of fresh fruit & veg you can keep down will be doing the baby good, but try not to worry too much, my midwife always used to tell me that the baby was a parasite (I hated it when she said this, but it did make sense) and that it would steal all the goodness it needed from my reserves even if it left me with nothing. It did, but at least there wasn't much post-natal weight to lose and baby was fine! Hope you feel much better soon. x

Thanks Ellaroo, feel better today, wasnt sick yesterday, although didnt really eat much but drank lots especially milk. I am just trying to eat some breakfast and hopefully will have another sick free day.

Thanks everyone for their kind words and stories of sickness to make me feel less worried

Joe1 Not sure if it helps but was constantly sick throughout my pregnancy. It didn't work on me but other mums tried and said it helped. I was advised to nobble arrowroot biscuits and crystalised ginger. They could be old wives tales but you never know. Good luck to all of you.

Jendy · 16/08/2002 10:59

Sorry that should be nibbled!!

Joe1 · 16/08/2002 14:56

Thanks Jendy, dont know if I could face it really, tried ginger stuff earlier in prenancy and made me throw up, dont know about nobbling arrowroot biscuits though, will have a go.

Not that you need more reassurance or support, but I, too, am 33 wks and have recently started feeling nauseated again and even having aversions/cravings. Luckily I haven't actually been sick yetthough I had plenty of that up to 20/21 wks. What's more disconcerting for me is that I have my third viral infection (with fever) of this pregnancyI just keep picking up lurgies from my son, invariably getting much more ill (for much longer) than he ever does. I've had to be on course of antibiotics for an infection I contracted in my first trimester and have had more than my share of paracetamol over the months. I hope it's true that all this illness/medication won't be harmful to the baby. Anyway. . .I thought I'd escape illness during pregnancy by having a spring/summer pregnancy--but I was wrong!

Joe1 · 16/08/2002 18:59

God expatkate you have had a worse time of it than me. I think you tend to pick up lots more due to baby taking all your goodness and I think there are alot more lurgies around this time of year due to people going abroad. Hope you feel better and not long to go now, weeks counting down nicely.

I was sick all the way through my last pregnancy, and am still being sick this time too (I'm 32 weeks). I lived on Gaviscon last time, which helped, but I was still sick every night. This time I've got some 'Maalox' prescribed from the doctors - which is definately helping - sometimes going almost 2 weeks between throwing up..... may be worth a try for you. In fact (other than the last 2 days, when I have been sick - I blame the heat for that!), the only time I've been sick in the last 3 weeks was when I'd run out of Maalox & was back on the Gaviscon.

ionesmum · 17/08/2002 11:41

I wasn't sick but I was permanently nauseous. I craved lemons and felt better whenevr I had anything with them in it. I later read that lemon is anti-nausea. You can buy delcious organic lemonade by Whole Earth from supermarkets and health shops, it's sweetened with apple juice and has no additives. I also liked a slice of lemon in hot water. HTH

Joe1 · 19/08/2002 09:54

Thanks I will have a look for that lemonade. Funny, in the early months I had lemon and hot water as soon as I got up and really fancied it again a couple of weeks ago but keep forgetting the lemons, I will have to stop and pick some up today.

I was sick this morning again, also gone off some foods again and craving yogurts just like the first few weeks.

Tetley · 19/08/2002 11:30

Poor you, Enid - well, at least there's not too much longer to go now! It's that thought that's keeping me going - although sometimes 8 weeks feels like an eternity!! At least I finish work this week though, so I'll get a rest for a couple of days a week, while ds is still at nursery

Keep going on the yoghurts - they've got to be better for you than my current fad - which is a Twix a day!

Joe1 · 19/08/2002 11:45

Oh Enid, I shouldnt have mentioned anything, it will probably go through the 30+ week pregnant lot now. I am still drinking loads of milk but still not really eating much. Although I surprised myself and ate a nice roast dinner last night and enjoyed it followed by ice cream.

I couldnt sleep last night, and I suppose got about 3-4 hours in all. I now have 4-6weeks to go, depending on which date the baby decides to show itself.

SUBRINA · 20/08/2002 14:25

I too was sick last time until 18 weeks, then it started again at about 32 weeks - real vomiting sickness. I found myself getting up in the night to eat cheese, milk and yoghurts. I had a scan at 36 weeks to check I wasn't breech - and it was predicted my DS would be 6llb odd at full term. He was 8lb 13oz, but in those last weeks I lost weight to the extent I could no longer wear my wedding ring/watch safely. What I am getting at is I beleive the sickness to be related to rapid growth - think how the baby develops in those early weeks when you're really nauseous! I also think tiredness is a lot to do with it too - last time I slept and read and did lots of long walks.

I do hope you feel better soon Joe1. The only consolation is the relief when the child is born is instant!! Good luck
