Prams!!

So I'm currently pregnant with my second. My first will be 18/19 months when baby comes along.

I'm thinking about getting a new pram but debating if I need a double or a single? Could I get away with a single with a buggy board / seat? What prams would you recommend?

Thank you x

Depends how much u would want to spend and how often u will be using the pram.
If your price is on the lower side id just go with the single pram and get a strap for your toddler for safety ,i dont like the boards but they seem to be popular.

LittleFox01 · 18/05/2019 16:07

Thank you. Tbh we never used a pram much with my one at the moment but I'm thinking about we will probably be out and about a lot more at parks etc I just don't know if a double would be worth the money. I had be looking at the bugaboo donkey for the double pram x

My eldest was 2 and a half when my baby was born, he really struggled when she was in the buggy (we walk into town often) so I tended to pop the baby in a sling and him the older child in the buggy and then moved onto a buggy board, which we found brilliant!

Chocolateandcarbs · 18/05/2019 16:08

I used the double buggy once... soo heavy and difficult around shops!

stucknoue · 18/05/2019 16:44

Double, I didn't (2 years apart) and went shopping with dd2 aged 5 days to buy one, the evening of the day dh returned to work and I realised I couldn't cope with a toddler and a baby (and toddler turned out to be autistic)

TheCatInTheSquare · 18/05/2019 20:58

If you're not sure you'll use it much then I'd definitely buy one secondhand.

bangwhistle · 18/05/2019 21:32

This won't work for everyone but my first win were 19m apart and I had a mini scooter which I attached a lead to and used that as you might a buggy board. Worked for us.

Angelinthenightx · 18/05/2019 22:15

I had the bugaboo donkey and loved it ,then u can use it as a single at anytime, i got a lot of wear out of mine used it for 5years in total had 3 children close in age. Going for a bugaboo again this time.
If u have the money then id say yes get it esp if u will use it alot but if not then id say what someone else said look at second hand ones x

What do you normally do for naps if you’re out for the whole day? Older child still needing to sleep would be my main motivation to get a double. The donkey is easy to switch between single and double mode and there’s a buggy board option so whilst not cheap, you could use it as a single for short trips and switch it to a double before you head out for longer ones.

Mamabear12 · 18/05/2019 23:35

I would definitely not put an 18 month old in one of those seat buggy boards. Not safe. I have a 20 month gap and had to get a double stroller. However, you could get away with perhaps keeping baby in a sling for the first 6 months and by the time the eldest is two a buggy bored would be okay.

MonicaGellerHyphenBing · 18/05/2019 23:43

I think you’ll need a double buggy. My DD is 18 months just now and I doubt she would stand/sit nicely on a buggy board for any length of time, she goes in whatever direction she wants with very little input from me!

We have an iCandy Peach that we bought in 2017 and it can convert to a double. I’ve never used it as a double but they seem quite popular for use with more than one child.

Daffodil2491 · 19/05/2019 03:56

Have you seen the uppababy vista? Can be single or double, with adaptors and can have buggy board I’m expecting my first but thinking of getting this in anticipation of possible siblings and not wanting to buy another one down the line. One of the hardest things to choose with so much choice! Good luck x

MustardScreams · 19/05/2019 04:13

I would go double, even though I would do everything in my power to avoid buying one!

At 18 months dd was still napping in the pram, and as great as slings are, my back is crying just thinking about wearing baby and pushing a pram.

At that age toddlers are too little to be standing for long periods, so I doubt a buggy board would work. Plus it’ll be handy to have somewhere to contain them both once baby starts getting more mobile.

LittleFox01 · 19/05/2019 06:30

Thank you all!! I think I will look into getting a second hand double bugaboo or something similar. It's so hard to know what to do for the best. I love the sling idea but like someone else said I don't think my back would cope. I get horrendous pain every night since having my first.
Thank you all again x

I bought a second hand Phil and reds and loved it. Paid about £100 and used it for 3 years (can be used as double or single)

PBobs · 19/05/2019 07:42

There's a Mountain Buggy buy/sell/swap group on Facebook with second hand doubles available at great prices. Worth a look I'd say.

DappledThings · 19/05/2019 08:01

I have a 22 month gap and used double for over a year because of napping. Mountain Buggy Duet. Light and easy to get round and on buses etc.

cookiechomper · 19/05/2019 08:07

I'd get a double. I got the City Select which adapted to a single buggy and can have a buggy board on it. My youngest is 20 months and there's no way he would stay on the buggy board. So he's in the pram and my 3 year old is on the board.

Seahawk80 · 19/05/2019 08:42

My son is 22 months and I think I'd really struggle now with only a buggy board for him. I'd def look at a second hand double as you won't need it for long. Or britax do a lightweight double that folds down small which looks amazing

LittleFox01 · 20/05/2019 06:26

I shall take a look at all the ones mentioned 😊 are any of them suitable from new born? X

DappledThings · 20/05/2019 06:42

You can get a carrycot for the Mountain Buggy that fits into the reclined seat so you can use it from birth.

PBobs · 20/05/2019 08:31

Yep. Echoing what PP has said. Honestly I have a Mountain Buggy and for the price point I don't think you can beat it. We looked at loads of others but they all seemed massive or bulky or overly heavy etc. The Facebook group is great - some real bargain on there too. Especially if you may not need the double for long.

LittleFox01 · 06/07/2019 07:48

Thank you to who said about the Uppababy Vista! It's what I've gone for and I LOVE IT !!!
I'm currently using it as a single but have all the attachments etc to make into a double when baby arrives! My little boy also loves it ! X

Yay. We love our Vista too, so versatile and robust! :)
