12 Week Scan Nerves

I just received my scan letter yesterday, which I was so thrilled about as I've been waiting eagerly for it, then today I just had pure panic on Omg what if there is no heart beat or it's bad news....
Part of me is so excited to finally see our little bean as it's been such a long journey for us to fall pregnant with our 1st baby but now the other half is pure dread. Apart from bad nausea, exhaustion and a few stretching cramps I haven't had any sinister symptons. Is this normal to feel worried?

This is all perfectly normal. This is your first window into the womb and is both exciting and a bit scary. Apart from weeing on a stick and feeling dodgy you realise you have no other proof.
I remember all those feelings but they were all forgotten when I was seeing my little bean on the screen.

I have mine coming up too. The thing that makes me nervous is that you don’t need sinister symptoms to have a missed miscarriage — in most cases your normal symptoms just carry on. The instances of symptoms stopping and giving you prior warning is actually rare. But we just have to get a handle on it. For me taking charge of my health helps my anxiety — instead of Google I contact my Midwife, GP or Bupa to get proper advice regarding symptoms or things I’m concerned about. I also go for long walks but that’s getting harder as pregnancy progresses.

I don't say this to increase your anxiety, but the scan is absolutely designed to check all is well, they will take measurements of bones and check for key features and be able to tell if anything is not quite as it should be. My GP who had been our family GP for years suggested that I see the scan as the diagnostic tool it's designed to be.

I have my 12 week scan coming up in a couple of days, next Wednesday, I'll be 12+2. I completely understand how you feel! In feeling the same! Espically when I see other women who have sadly lost their baby. It's hard because were in limbo until the 12 week scan, we have no idea what's going on and pin all our Hope's on that scan. NY only advice is to try and keep positive. Try not to think of the possible negatives (easier said then done I know!) But just keep a positive outlook and it will help you keep calm.

Yes OP, it's hard not to worry and the weeks seem to be so long Sad. I'm 10+3w and still haven't received my scan letter. It just seems to be taking forever.

I’m exactly the same and I don’t even know why. My scan is on Friday and I will cry when I see a healthy wriggly baby on that screen!

Leannej1986 · 18/05/2019 20:47

@bobble53 it's cause we care so much already we want it all to be ok, not long to wait now.
