So I started off checking If I could still do yoga (I’m 9 weeks btw). Midwife at booking appt said it’s fine to carry on just don’t start anything new. But Google comes up with so many different opinions on yoga during pregnancy that I got very confused.
Some saying don’t lie on your front, some saying you can, some say don’t twist, others say do...
During my investigations I noticed it said to avoid hot yoga - typically, that is the yoga I do 🙄!
So that’s yoga out at the weekend then.

Then I remembered I have a facial booked (been booked for some time) next weekend, I’d better just google if I can get a facial in the first trimester and - shock - lots of different advice AGAIN!
So it turns out I now have to worry about oils as well as heat!?

So now i’m panicking as I went to a spa before I knew I was pregnant, went in sauna, steam room, had back massage - the lot! What damage has this done?!

Totally confused now as no one mentioned this, obviously I know about the no wine, no cheese etc. But no one said no hot yoga and no massages! Lol! It’s like a minefield of do’s and don’ts!

Please don’t tell me I’m the only one who has been surprised by this stuff??
I would love to you know what everyone else has been surprised at after falling pregnant?

(Just so you know, i’m not really moaning, I am very happy to be pregnant, just having a bit of a rant 😂)

Yoga is fine, you can find pregnancy yoga classes too. But yes this doesn't apply to hot yoga as it's not good to raise your temperature too much especially in the first 12 weeks so that's why they say avoid saunas, hot tubs etc also.

Not heard that you can't have a facial but perhaps just wait until your after 12 weeks then I'm sure it's fine!

You do have to be careful with some oils. I had a nightmare with skincare when pregnant due to this!

When you google pregnancy related things stick to the nhs website; you can literally find that anything is harmful in pregnancy or you google it enough. Also consider that there are very few scientific studies on pregnant humans as they can’t put pregnant women and their babies at risk for the sake of research so sometimes they’ll say don’t do something just to be on the safe side.
Ps. Pregnancy yoga is designed to be safe during pregnancy so that’s a good route

As others have said, you could do pregnancy/prenatal yoga. I gave it a go and it wasn't for me, I'm still able to exercise and it wasn't intense enough for the stage I'm at.

I stayed at my usual pilates class until about 12 weeks before moving into prenatal pilates and to be honest, I wasn't comfortable lying on my front in the normal class. Even before 12 weeks I could feel the pressure on my uterus, it wasn't doing any harm, it just didn't feel right for me. I'm enjoying the prenatal class much more as there is no lying on front or back.

My local prenatal yoga classes don’t even accept pregnant women until 14 weeks.

As PP said stick to the NHS websites when looking for dos and donts, you'll have a very tiresome and long 9 months otherwise!
I was 9 weeks when I had a Turkish bath and full body massage so I wouldn't worry too much about the raised temp, unless you went to the spa every day I doubt it would make a difference. Have you thought about pregnancy Pilates? I did it when I was expecting my 1st it was really good!

Honestly OP, it's really easy to get caught up in all the worries and things you shouldn't be doing and I'm not a health professional but as long as you're not doing anything blatantly dangerous (smoking/drinking/drugs) then just enjoy the pregnancy, they're called guidelines for a reason as they're literally just a guide!
Congrats and enjoy Smile

If you go to a regular yoga class, ask your teacher if you can attend while pregnant - they may suggest modifications. If they say the class isn't suitable (because it's hot), ask if they can recommend another class/teacher that would be suitable until you can attend.

You can do pregnancy yoga but I think you have to be 16 weeks.

With oils, yes you do have to be careful. IIRC, eucalyptus oil is very bad in pregnancy.

Yeah this is how I ended up feeling a bit frumpy after becoming a mum because during pregnancy I avoided hair dye, tan, facials, massages, hot tubs, just kept everything as close to nature as possible really and now DS is 2 and it all feels like a whole other world 🙈
