Slapped cheek worry

Hey I'm 35 weeks. My two sons have come down with a cough, cold and temp accompanied by quite red cheeks. It has just occurred to me this evening that perhaps this could be slapped cheek? I will ring the midwife first thing tomorrow to ask advice. I'm unsure if the redness on the cheeks is because of being flushed with a cold or if it is a rash as it comes and goes. Does anyone have any experience with this?x

Do they have a rash anywhere else? When my DD had slapped cheek she had a rash all over her body and legs with her cheeks particularly red and angry looking. I’d never heard of slapped cheek before this so I took her to the doctor to make sure it was nothing more worrying. The only thing I was told was to keep her away from pregnant women but that it would clear up on its own. So I would contact your midwife as you suggest just in case it is slapped cheek.

Hey cheers for the reply, they didn't have any other rash. I phoned the DAU for advice, the midwife said she would ring the lab for advice but never got back to me so might just ring to ask again today. Seeing my midwife next week anyway. Ahhhh my kids are constantly ill bless them! X

There’s a good chance you are already immune but even if not there no risk to your baby after 20 weeks gestation. Don’t worry.

Yes I had this worry at the very beginning of my pregnancy! My nephew had slap cheek! I was only 4/5 weeks pregnant, I got sent to the hospital for blood tests but everything came back fine, turned out I'd had it already! The midwife said like 90% of people have had it already as a child without even realising it. She said it's a childhood illness so very rare for adults to get it anyways espically if you've already had it as a child! It was a huge panic for me, but like I said everything was fine. I believe the most risk is between the first 20 weeks of pregnancy (espically 9-20).

20wks & under is high risk over this is wouldnt do anything to your baby.my baby died of this i caught it at 15wks pregnant had scan everything was fine by 20wk scan it was too late she died the next day and all she needed was a blood transfusion that would have saved her. I had rash on my arms & legs & they were stiff, had a bit of a temp & sore head.
Even if u did get it at this late stage your baby will be fine so try not to worry also it is rare for a adult to get it .X

I'm so sorry for your loss angelinthenightx, thank you for your reply. Thank you everyone for your replies it has been most helpful. The midwives never got back in touch despite me phoning twice. I suspect they have been extremely busy so will ask the gp tomorrow just to be on the safe side. Hope you are all well x
