Low Lying Placenta Advice Pls??

HeyaAll · 16/05/2019 19:51

Hi everyone.
I had a low lying posterior placenta identified at 28weeks and was still low at my last weeks emergency scan (due to reduced movement episode - all was fine anyways).
Today, at 32weeks, I had a ‘low-lying plcenta check up scan’ and they COULDN’T SEE IT. They said the baby’s head is in the way, they can’t measure it, etc. Now, I have mildly prolapsed cerfix, which is causing the baby’s head to be really (!!) low (uh!) and they said because the very-very top bit of the baby’s head appears to go ‘under’ the placenta, they consider it has moved and they discharge me back to midwife-led care only. (I dont mind tbh, the ‘doc’ I spoke with today was the most condescending person ever; she didn’t listen to anything I was saying - such as that my blood pressure is at 120/85 - but my normal BP is in 80/50 range generally! She told, she’s ‘giving me a star today’ without letting me even finish my sentence wtf...)
Sorry for the rant, it was a ridiculous appointment today!
Anyways, I havent had any bleeds with this placenta issue, but obviously it was still low last week; they said they can’t see it at all and no way to measure it - but they cleared my record anyways - is this normal?? What is going on there? Has this happened to any of you??? :o
How likely am I to still have issues with the placenta position please? (Eg bleeding, or next scan being low again, gosh!) I have no idea what to think about this, so any advice would be great.
Thanks x

If you are unhappy and I think anyone would be considering, keep going back or even change hospitals until someone does something about it.

I had a low placenta with my first which completely covered my cervix, but it did move by the time I was induced, however because you have had reduced movements as well I think I would be insisting on them seeing you ASAP even if it puts your mind at rest. Hopefully someone will come along and direct you better than I can.

Oh sorry it's posted twice Shock

Thank you for your reply. Im glad to hear yours moved away. :) With the movements it has been one episode so far, I did have a check then (last week) and thats when they told me they can see its still low. (I saw it too) we are back to crazy-jumping around now for the past couple of days, so thats good :)
I just don’t understand how they can put in: ‘resolved’ when they clearly told me they cant see anything. Grrr! (And really the baby’s head is super engaged atm - 32 weeks btw! :o - is this normal?? So yeah, noone could see anything other than the head down there.) what is it with this ‘top of the head looks like is slightly past the placenta so its no longer low’? It was literally the top of the skull bit that was past the point...
I mean, if it WAS resolved, I would be happy - but this just makes me feel like I should be worried because I am in charge of my own bloody pre-natal care!

Anyone knows about this please?

I keep trying to find some info about the ‘head looks past it’ although just the top bit and can’t find anything at all Confused any advice would be great tbh

The worry is that the placenta comes out before the baby but if the baby's head is lower anyway surely the baby will come out first but I guess they can't confirm that unless they can see it I'd get a second opinion! Good luck cc

Hotterthanahotthing · 18/05/2019 15:50

My placenta don't clear the os until 38 weeks. You still have a little while to go and it may clear as your uterus grows or if the baby head is lower the you should be ok.I was told no sex and any spotting to go straight in.I had to be induced in the end.

Darkstar4855 · 18/05/2019 17:15

If the baby’s head is lower than the placenta then the placenta can’t be blocking the cervix. It’s good news and means you shouldn’t have any more bleeding.

PeachPotato · 18/05/2019 17:19

Did you have a scan with the dildo wand? They couldn’t see mine with the normal scan but did with that one (it was clear).

Sandrine1982 · 18/05/2019 18:41

Do you have any more scans planned? Alternatively you could get a second opinion and pay for a private scan with a consultant. I have a low-lying placenta (currently at 25 weeks) and have another scan coming up at 32 weeks to check if it's moved...

HeyaAll · 18/05/2019 22:33

Hi thank you all for your input!
Darkstar, I have slightly prolapsed cerfix, and the baby’s head is right on it! 😪 hence why the top of the skull is a bit lower I suppose, but I am not sure about the logistics here - as Mommybearboo was saying, the worry being placenta coming out before the baby? I thought this was about likelyhood of bleeding when the uterus stretches in the last weeks!
I did manage to do some digging and found out something useful - when they did my 28-week scan the sonographer tilted the table slightly upside down - apparently they do this to move the baby up a bit so they can measure the distance accurately. They didn’t think to do it this time (and it was two people in the room) just said they cant measure it as they cant see it through the head in the way. (Only had the external scan, not internal) i have another scan in two weeks, if they dont tilt me on the bed I’ll tell them to! The way they got rid of me so quickly is what got me concerned the most tbh.
Just hope there are no bleeds in the meantime as obviously I am now told not to expect any...
I am going to stay positive, will have a bag ready just in case, but obviously my mind is going a little wild and am constantly worried something is going to happen. 😣 might call a midwife on monday just to discuss.. dont see much point getting a scan again as I have one in two weeks (they didnt notice it already booked in my notes and I didnt think to tell them 😬) , hopefully will be fine till then.
To the other responses, thank you - I had no bleeds, but was warned I am likely to have some later - just what a person wants to hear! 😷

I had low lying placenta and it didn’t move. If the baby head is engaged it is likely to have moved as as as

HeyaAll · 18/05/2019 22:51

Quartz this baby of mine has been head down and engaging from around 27w ! Its crazy, thats also why I am slightly freaked out about this issue (this is not my first baby but first ever complication) as at 28weeks I was 1.5cm from the os, posterior - at 31 still low (not measured) but babys head wasnt pushing on the cerfix when scanned and at 32 weeks they are telling me its low, they dont know how low but its fine and they’ll see me later.
At this point I am resolved with either option tbh, I would just like to know. The not-knowing is the annoying bit. :|

Sandrine1982 remember the backward rotation of the table if they try and tell you the babys low and they cant see properly on your 32weeks scan Grin
