Yes you can get special ante natal ones. I had one at 8 months. Just make sure they use oils that are safe for pregnant women and then you need only worry about trying to suppress farts whilst you move around. I failed at this and farted right in her face - never been so embarrassed.

Obviously it's also nigh on impossible to be lying face down so one of those funny chairs you put your face in is usually the norm

I'm in Scotland so can't help you with a local one

Saw this and want to say YES PLEASE

I believe you shouldn't have you feet massaged, and should prefably have someone trained for pg massage because the relaxine hormone means your muscles are sensitive and can be damaged easily. Therefore you should only have a light massage.

Hi Holly,

Not only is it OK - it should be bloody compulsory imo...

If ever there was a time when a massage and some pampering were needed it's now - especially later on when everything gets a bit uncomfortable.

My lovely dh (in a rare case of being in touch with his feminine side) bought me a spa evening - which I'm having tonight [blissed out emoticon]

I don't think ordinary ones are recommended after 28 weeks, but you can get special pregnancy ones afer that. And yes, as the other posters ahve said - you should check wherever you go that they are trained to massage delicate pregnant ladies (who are likely to have flatulence ) so they don't hurt you and use the right oils etc.

But go for it (and get your dp to pick up the tab)

I'm off for a massage this afternoon and am 35 weeks, she's trained in pregnancy massage though I'm not quite sure how its going to work, it sounds fab and I'm really looking forward to it. She takes a history and does some finding out about you first.

In Leeds I would imagine you could try some of the health clubs like David Lloyd or the Village though I reckon there'll be loads of other independent options too, who might be more geared up for pregnancy massage. There would be adverts at somewhere like the Swarthmore Centre on Clarendon Road or try the phonebook. Good luck.

How about other stuff? Am going to a spa in a few weeks and want to know if I can have a pedicure. I know that their rules are no treatments at all in 1st trimester, but I'll only be 8 weeks so do they really need to know just for a pedicure?

tassisssss · 19/07/2007 20:27

a very thoughtful friend bought me vouchers for a pregnancy massage treatment thing when pregnant with ds and it was lovely...a real treat as i'd never have spent the money on it myself.

go for it (get someone to collect you after and drive you home...i was so nearly asleep by the end!)

I had an upsetting time when I went to a Health Spa, DH had brought it for my Xmas pressie and I went in March, but I had written to them previously to say I was TTC and therefore could be pregnant when I went. They wrote back and told me that my treatments would be okay but I could not go in the sauna etc.
I was about 10 weeks pg at the time. I had my facial, swam in the pool, chilled out and went to have my free back massage (part of the package DH had brought) only to be told I couldn't because I'd let slip I was pg. So they gave me a head and neck massage and facial together.
Worst thing was she went to go ask the receptionist to see if she could do the massage and announced my pg to the whole room of people, including my SIL who didn't know (as we'd not told anybody) and I had to then tell the whole family!

Hi everyone

Hope you don?t mind me posting on here, but after reading your posts I thought some of you might be interested in hearing about the ?mum to be? range at Waterfall Spa in Leeds.

Waterfall is the first Spa in the UK to pro actively develop a full range of treatments that are safe and designed specifically for Mums-to-be, using only oils and products that are 100% safe for you and baby.

Treatments range from manicures, pedicures and facials to leg and foot massage and the ?100 pillows massage?, a relaxing massage that takes place on a comfy circular bed in the relaxation area, allowing you to gently drift off to sleep.

Good luck to all you mums to be and thank you for reading this.

Alice

Clarins studios have a Mum to be session which is heaven, from memory its a facial, leg rub, arms, back and shoulder massage and a head massage. I used to feel light as a hefty feather afterwards. If there's a John Lewis in Leeds try there.
