How does/did morning sickness feel for you?

Hi all,

I'm 8+6 (due Dec 19) and this is my first pregnancy... well, my first to get this far (I've lost 4 by week 6 in previous years). I have never had morning sickness before, even though I did have some other symptoms (painful breasts, feeling tired and sleepy, peeing constantly).

Starting last Sunday I've been feeling rather queasy, on and off and I'd appreciate if you'd share how did the morning sickness feel for you as I am not sure if it is that or I have some other, underlying problem.

For me it feels as weak sea or motion sickness. It is a constant queasy feeling in the stomach and occasional dizziness. It gets worse when I spend a lot of time in front of the screen (which I have to for work) and especially when I scroll documents on my screen. It doesn't make me want to vomit, but I have definitely developed aversion towards broccoli and some other foods which I previously enjoyed since this started. Salty crackers and eating often a little helps, but it is still there from the moment I wake up until I go to sleep.

I read that sometimes computer screens can cause you to be more sick, I think if you make the screen darker it helps. Google it, I'm sure you will find something about it. www.workingmother.com/2006/10/home/got-nausea

My first pregnancy felt completely fine. Second one, tired and sometimes felt sick at night, but barely. Third one (8.5 weeks now), I feel more sick towards end of day and bloated. I have heard others describe like you said, sea sick feeling. For me, its barely noticeable. Its like I don't feel 100% and then wonder is it in my head etc.

Congratulations Flowers

Sounds like morning sickness to me, particularly if you don't have any other symptoms of illness like a temperature.

Mine felt like motion sickness, and I've seen it described like that lots of times.

Make sure you're drinking enough, and as you've said, eating little and often should help.

Mine felt like motion sickness. Every movement felt as if I wasging to be sick. Only actually sick a hand full of times

Stroller15 · 16/05/2019 14:57

Congratulations!

It sounds like morning sickness to me. Mine felt like a constant, terrible hangover. Nauseous, dizzy and only actually sick a handful of times. It helped when I ate something.

Mine felt like motion sickness too. I would regularly also get dizzy, and if I stood up too quickly or for too long the while room would feel like it was spinning. A lot of food aversions too

Mine was a weird mixture of hunger and nausea. Basically that feeling when you’re so hungry you have pains in your stomach and need to eat something to make it go away. However the thought of most foods made me queasy so I was stuck between feeling ravenous but not really being able to eat. Ended up living on pudding, yoghurt, crisps and rice crackers for weeks. I also had a lot of bloating, and fennel tea helped a lot.

Before pregnancy I never understood the concept of how eating can reduce nausea, but it actually works. I learned not to let my stomach get completely empty, and would carry snacks and yoghurt everywhere so I could eat every 2 hours.

Constant nausea and aversion to food while also feeling hungry for me, both times. I've never actually vomited with it though.

Congratulations!

Mine felt exactly like this. Luckily I wasn't working at the time so was able to just see it out at home. I was dreading starting a new job at 10 weeks but the sickness subsided just in time!

My queesiness came with neck cramps and a weird gagging sensation / lump in my throat though I never had any sickness. For me salty, sour, and spicy food works;

QueenofPain · 16/05/2019 16:39

Previously had HG, which was an unrelenting wall of nausea. I couldn’t concentrate on anything else in my life because the nausea was all consuming. Smells, certain foods, the breeze, dry air, coughing, car travel, being in a hot environment, my boyfriend at the time was a massive trigger, couldn’t stand to have him near me, literally everything made me wretch or vomit. Eventually hospitalised, hypokalemia, hyponatraemia, central line, IV fluids for weeks. In the end I couldn’t continue with the pregnancy, I was very young and not mentally able to prioritise the pregnancy over how unwell I was.

ShutTheFridgeUp · 16/05/2019 17:32

Mine felt like a hangover. A constant hangover for months, it was awful. Was very rarely sick, but I think the constant nausea was worse.

Ladies, thanks for sharing your experiences - it sounds that there is a few modalities of morning sickness: the one that feels like motion sickness, the one that feels like hungover and obviously the worst of them all hyperemesis.

I also never realized that it can last literally whole day. A brief respite just after I have a cracker and on we go again. Usually, it gets a bit easier in the early afternoon but towards 5pm is as strong as it is in the morning. Yet, on the other hand, I expected it to be much worse - as in much more intense sensation than this so I should probably thank my lucky star.

Perhaps because my previous bad experiences I tend to panic over everything: if I am sick - is it normal, is it morning sickness or I have food poisoning, if I am not sick - why don't I feel it anymore, is there something wrong with the baby... guess there is no winning until you reach the 'safe zone' in pregnancy.

Congratulations Flowers mine was like a constant strong nausea, a bit like motion sickness.

When I was sick it was like I literally couldn't stop it

bearface45 · 19/05/2019 07:56

Defo morning sickness, lasted from morning til night with me, like a 24/7 hangover! Started at 7 weeks and finished at 12 weeks with first little one, this time i’m 14 weeks and just starting to ease a bit now. Can’t wait to eat normal meals again!

Masha31 · 19/05/2019 08:34

I'm 11+3 and the sickness has just stopped on Friday!

VictoriaBun · 19/05/2019 08:38

My morning sickness usually started about 4.30 in the afternoon. I used to walk home from work and would throw up in the street ! It is so embarrassing to have to go into the gutter to do it. I would pick different ways home as to not show myself up in the same road every evening.

YouJustDoYou · 19/05/2019 08:59

Absolutely nauseous, all hours, for months. Constant vomiting. Constant queasiness. Absolutely hated all four pregnancies because of it.
