I had some bright red bleeding 3 weeks ago tomorrow. Was referred to early pregnancy unit at my local hospital and had a scan, all okay, I was estimated to be 6 weeks.

I've had some very very light dark brown spotting past few days. I have just gone to the toilet in work and have Dark Red/Brown bleeding. Bleeding not spotting.

I have had severe morning sickness which has let up quite a bit in the past few days, I hoped it just meant it was starting to get better. I also had some sharp stomach pains but I've had those before being pregnant (constipation / gas pains)

To be referred I have to have a GP appointment first. Should I just go to A&E?! I have just read somewhere that if you're Rhesus Negative to be seen right away as it could have something to do with bloods. (I am Rhesus Negative)

I'm very worried/upset, this is my first pregnancy. I can't wait a whole other day to find out what's going on. Should I go to the hospital?

Hi OP I would see if you can go straight into your EPU - either speak to your midwife or ring them direct - some will accept self referrals many won't and will say you have to go via a&e

Be aware that you may wait hours in a&e (which when bleeding isn't pleasant) only to given an EPU scan appointment for a couple of days time rather than today?

Bambamber · 16/05/2019 13:09

Even if you go to A+E today you may still not get a definite answer today. Unfortunately you won't get fast tracked as they know the pregnancy is in the right place and unless you have a heavy bleed you won't be seen as an emergency. Have you tried phoning your GP and explaining the situation? Or even try phoning the EPU and explain they have already seen you this pregnancy and see what they say

Bere111 · 16/05/2019 13:13

I’d call EPU or in my local hospital it’s emergency gynaecology. I just bypassed my gp, all they can do is refer you anyway.
Fingers crossed for you, keep us posted xx

Ridethewaves · 16/05/2019 13:18

I had a urgent phone appt with my gp. They then referred me for the earliest appt available at epau, saved hanging around in a+e. Im rh-ve too and this didnt seem to affect anything.
Sorry to hear youre going through this, its very strssful. Hope all works out okay for you.

EdajOvor · 16/05/2019 14:11

Called my Midwife, she asked me to call the EPU as I've already been so they should have an open policy for me to go back in. EPU said no I have to have a GP appointment to be checked there first and referred. Called my Midwife back, she can't refer me so I've made a doctors appointment for 3.30pm today. But she said I won't get a referral for today. And going to a&e won't get me one any sooner.

So looking at now having to wait until tomorrow to find out if everything is okay.

Very worried. I know a lot of people have bleeding in pregnancy but still. Horrible anxiety, going to be hell waiting :(

@EdajOvor you could be writing my pregnancy!

I had some brown spotting at 6 weeks and then again at 9 weeks with 2 episodes of bright red bleeding and it lasted a week. Was so stressful. Both times had scans and all was fine. They said it was cervical erosion.

Am now 15 weeks and (tough wood) haven't had any more bleeding

Really hope you get an answer quickly.

Thank you everyone for the advice/replies.

I managed to get a referral for 5pm yesterday evening at the EPU. Felt like a right hypochondriac, seeing the same nurse as last time, but she was lovely.

Thankfully, nothing amiss, got to see my little Jelly Baby in there, and the heartbeat fluttering away, which was surreal and amazing (first time pregnancy).

She said the bleeding was due to harmless cervical polyps , to just keep an eye out and any more bleeding to come back in.

That's lovely, congratulations. It's understandable to be worried with any bleeding, I'm sure the nurses would always rather see a worried woman than have her sit at home stressing out.

I'm a worrier at the best of times so it's a massive relief. 9 Weeks in and 2 lots of scan pictures already Smile - It was nice to be able to see how much he/she has grown in just 3 weeks

Very worried - Is this a miscarraige
