I’m 13 weeks 3 days pregnant I have just informed all my friends and family and my ex’s family that I’m expecting now my secret is out I’m feeling really down in at the minute is this normal to feel like this. I don’t know if it is because I don’t sleep very well and I’m constantly tried as I’m weeing all night working all day. I have good support around me but don’t feel I can tell them I’m so down as it’s meant to be a happy time. I’m excited don’t get me wrong but very nervous and overwhelmed by it all.

Is this your first pregnancy? Was it planned?

My ds is now 4 months, but I suffered severe depression during the first four months of the pregnancy...but mostly due to awful hyperemisis . I felt isolated and very, very alone.

Lack of sleep can really have a profound efffect on you. It's normal to feel to feel nervous, but if you feel it's getting on top of you, you really should speak to your midwife or GP. It's also better to try and open up to those around you for additional support. There seems to be such a pressure to enjoy pregnancy, but quite frankly I find it quite miserable and I don't think I'm alone in this. Be kind to yourself and rest up when you can

Yes this is my 1st I have suffered quite bad morning sickness as well and I have a quite a stressful job as it is. I just feel if I opened up people will judge me as I’m a very strong person but just feel like I have to be happy as it’s a happy time and yes it is but I just ant get in the mood. I do have midwife next week so will maybe open up a bit to her.

I've suffered excruciating depression and anxiety this pregnancy, I don't think insomnia and hyperemisis helped matters. I have days where I feel I could burst with happiness and contentment and I have days where I'm filled with despair. I spoke up and was referred to the perinatal mental health team and also the holistic therapy midwives who have been giving me aromatherapy treatment and massages etc which help massively

Antenatal depression is more common then you might think, tell your midwife, don't suffer in silence.
