Should I force myself to exercise?

I’d so appreciate any advice or experience or anyone who’s spoken to their midwife/doctor about this.

I’ve been trying to keep up my pre-pregnancy routine of running twice a week. I just do a light jog for about 2k now. My partner woke me up this morning to go for a run and I just feel like I needed more sleep. I don’t know whether, on days like this, I should force myself to exercise or succumb to my fatigue and just let myself sleep.

I feel good for the exercise and my body wants to move. But my body also wants to sleep. Is it bad if I push myself? Does it matter if I do it occasionally?

I’m 32 weeks btw.

At 32 weeks I'd definitely take the sleep over the run! I'm 15+5 and dont force myself out running if I'm tired, your body is already busy. Just go out later or have a walk later instead if you want to :)

I'd say instead of running walk. That way still getting out and getting some excersise.

I am currently trying to find the motivation to go to the gym before work. I am 25 weeks and love the gym, although I have been away for a week followed by a week long cold which meant I couldn't go.

If you are tired, you need to listen to your body. Rest up, don't feel guilty and if you feel better later go then, if not then it's no big deal. It's one run.

Enjoy your snooze xx

Yeah I'd sleep... if it's a question of motivation then maybe push yourself, but it's because you're tired so rest! You're growing a whole little person, that's probably work enough! If you still want to run twice and week can't you just defer it to another day or time?

Walking is best when pregnant & is one of the better things to do ,also safe for your baby x

I'd say listen to your body - this was the advice of my midwife. By 32 weeks, a walk is likely going to be a lot easier on you than a run. If you feel tired, rest! Just try to move every day in some way.

Honestly in your position I would go out for the run. You are clearly fit and healthy if you are still running - and at 32 weeks maintaining that will help with the birth and labour and may even help you recover faster too.

I stopped running at 31 weeks and just switched to power walking instead. Listen to your body xx

Are you able to run later in the day, so you can get the sleep you need but also have the benefit of the run?

I used to listen to my body; if I needed to sleep I would but if I had energy I’d do dome exercise

Don't force yourself, listen to your body. It's perfectly normal at this stage in your pregnancy to start feeling tired and needing more rest. I say take it easy and going with flow, do what your body needs and don't beat yourself up about it.
