Just discovered I'm pregnant while on holidays. Was a bit of a suprise as I thought I had a very light flow a few weeks ago. I have severe Nausea all day for 3 days. I've tried ginger tea and travel sickness tablets. Getting really worried as I can barely eat anything all day. Have to get a 3 hour flight tomorrow. Anyone have any advice? Experience the same? I won't get to see my doctor for 2 days.

Hello you poor thing. I’m sorry to tell you but i was sick for eight months straight..
Try very flat coke, you have to get your blood sugar right,
But be assured it’s because your baby is strong and it’s taking over your immune system, it’s a good thing really, but awful to deal with,
Ask at flight check in if you can be upgraded, more room. Better loos to throw up in etc,, good luck. And congratulations

Tomato juice (or Pineapple Juice if you can’t tolerate sour tastes) with salt and pepper really helps. Have a glass of plain water for every one of those though to ensure you stay hydrated. Also lots of plain salted crackers / crisps helps.

Thanks @Thesuzle @Teddybear45

Sorry for TMI but last night I had really bad diarrhoea so Im thinking it may be a stomach bug or food poisoning. I was assuming is all pregnancy related. How bad is it that if something is pregnancy related we feel like it's normal and we should just go with it? I should have gone to a doctor here.

Thanks both for your advice. I'll give it a try today and hopefully it will help me survive the trip home.

Plain bread, plain crackers, lots of water and apple juice has been helping me.

The only thing I could stomach was fruit.

Have you been prescribed anything by a GP? Cyclizine, procloperazine, ondansetron? One or a combination of these could really help you.

If you're not able to keep enough down for a sustained amount of time you may need rapid hydration. We usually keep women in if they have 3+ ketones in their urine and give them IV anti-sickness and fluid

Flat lucazade was good for me and ready salted crisps first thing.
Also eating anything I fancied and not worrying if it was healthy - I needed the calories! Morning sickness full on for 25 weeks the first time and less full on but daily until about 16 w the 2nd time. 🤢

Prequelle · 13/05/2019 09:56

Can of full fat full sugar coke first thing in the morning seems to help some people.

I would not take any pills unless prescribed by GP. Make sure the travel sickness pills you took are okay for pregnancy, if not, I would make sure to tell GP or midwife you took them. If you are feeling sick all the time, keep plastic ziplock bags with you. Awful I know, but always good to have a few in case you are stuck for example in your seat on the plane. Eat little and often. A friend I know who suffered with HG the entire pregnancy until she gave birth said she basically carried those ziplock bags EVERYWHERE. Only way to leave the house. I notice I feel a little sick if I go more then 2 hours or 3 max with out eating. But during the night its fine and when I wake up I feel fine...its only as the day goes on. If you eat, try crackers or bread sticks. Either plain or with peanut butter. Banana or apple sauce.

Mamabear12 · 13/05/2019 11:40

And if you manage to keep those down, move on to things like white rice, plain pasta. Chicken soup etc. Basically whatever you can stomach. My friend said sugary drinks helped her. So it could be a blood sugar thing.

I had nausea and sickness for the first 5 months of my pregnancy (and was convinced I'd never enjoy a proper meal again...). I found the anti-sickness bands you can wear on your wrists took the edge off. Also Lucozade, cashew nuts, rich tea biscuits, some fruits (oranges, bananas) helped.

Hi all

Thanks so much for all your advice. I didn't eat anything the day of the flight and stuck to water/ flat 7up. I rang a doctor and they had a prescription waiting for me at the late night pharmacy to help me when I got back. Saw my doctor yesterday and booked in for early dating scan. Feeling much better now so relieved I may not have severe Nausea too often.
