Finding a job when pregnant

I'm currently 7 weeks pregnant and looking for work at the moment. Has anyone got any experience of finding work when pregnant. Did you disclose being pregnant to employers and if so when?

I feel like you need to be honest with your employers. They will find out sooner or later anyway. Are you in employment at the moment? If you are for gods sake please stay in that job!

I disagree, keep it to yourself, you will only be discriminated again otherwise.

Also not to be too morbid but I wouldnt even tell my mum before 12 weeks after having bad news in the past, and would be unlikely to tell work until 20+. Legally you dont have to disclose until 28wk I think, unless there are safety reasons eg heavy lifting or chemicals.

It always annoys me when people say it should affected employment decisions, just be yourself and tell them if and when you want to after the contract is signed!

Yeah as above just keep it to yourself for now. Might be different if you were to go in to the interview with a huge bump but otherwise it’s not their business. You have until 25 weeks till you legally have to tell them.

Thanks for all your suggestions

I would keep it to yourself at this stage. Best of luck finding something.

I know a few people who have either been out of work and found out or have found out after handing in their notice and preparing to start somewhere new.
I'd keep quite at any interviews and go into a job proving how valuable you are.
People I know have found that the work place has been great about it. Yes it's been a shock to everyone but they've gone in prepared with a plan of their intentions with regards to going back to work, and they've worked hard to prove that they deserve the job.
Maternity leave is such a small period of time if you are in a job you intend to stay in for a long time so if a company value you in the long run it should be fine.

When I'm a hiring manager I NEVER want to know that before I make a decision. What if the candidate was a great second - I and everyone involved in interviewing would feel shite because there's no way to prove it didn't influence your choice. Tell them after offer or even after you start work given it's so early & might be well before the time you'd be confident to publically announce.

Good luck with your job hunt.
