Hi all I'm 28 weeks and heart burn has really set in.. every night and nothing seems to help. Any suggestions for relief? I need my sleep back lol

Pillows, many pillows, so you are sleeping sat up. Gaviscon bottle in easy reach. I dread to think how many litres of gaviscon I drank during my pregnancies.

ElevenOhFive · 10/05/2019 23:54

A glass of milk and lying propped up on pillows helped a little earlier on, but mine got progressively worse to the point that over-the-counter remedies didn’t work. I got a prescription of Omeprazole from the doctor which did the trick.

INeedNewShoes · 11/05/2019 00:03

My GP prescribed a stronger version of Gaviscon which I don't think is available OTC.

Also, sleeping with shoulders propped up a bit on a pillow.

Milk/yoghurt give temporary relief but there is a suggestion that these foods can actually make is worse subsequently.

You have my sympathy! It's really unpleasant.

Dairy definitely makes my heartburn worse. I've tried ranitidine and omeprazole and actually found drinking gaviscone straight from the bottle the only thing that really helped! I didn't, but apparently you can get it on prescription to save a bit of money.

Gaviscon by the bottle here 🙈🤣 only thing that works x

RoseReally · 11/05/2019 20:01

Raniditine is the only thing that works for me!

Cannyhandleit · 11/05/2019 20:06

Get renatidine from you gp

Smurfy23 · 11/05/2019 22:18

I got gaviscon advance from GP on prescription when it got to that point and was swigging it out of the bottle too!

Luckyme2 · 11/05/2019 22:23

I was glugging Gaviscon from the bottle! If it helps I would add that it stopped immediately the baby was out! Small comfort I know but hang in there!

TakingtheLeap · 12/05/2019 03:42

I personally find Peptac better than Gaviscon - it doesn't taste as nice but isn't as gloopy.

I had real problems just getting enough water as water gave me heartburn and I got sick of milk. In the end I started making my own "lassis" - water, yoghurt, ice, sugar and a pinch of salt in a smoothie maker. DH says they taste disgusting but I like them! Grin

Recent got a prescription for Ranitidine which has been a huge help. Heartburn still present but nowhere near as intense.

OohItsTheSoundOfThePolice · 12/05/2019 03:57

Ranitidine was the only thing that worked for me, you can buy it off the shelf now (not even over the counter). Wish I'd have known after suffering my whole first pregnancy -second one much better. I had rennies for any breakthrough reflux pain.

MustardScreams · 12/05/2019 05:29

Apples weirdly. V cold from the fridge. I had heartburn so badly I would wake up vomiting from the acid. And ranitidine, Gaviscon didn’t touch it.

On the plus side it stopped the second I gave birth, thank god.

gigi556 · 12/05/2019 06:02

My doctor prescribed omprezole. That was pretty much the only thing that worked.

Drinking diluted warm apple cider vinegar also worked but I had to drink it near constantly!

bakingisnotforwimps · 12/05/2019 06:18

Refresher sweets (the multicoloured round ones not the chewy lemon ones)!

Lauren83 · 12/05/2019 06:49

You have my sympathy! I have been going through bottles of the stuff although just supermarket own as gavisvon is expensive if you go through it at the rate I am, I'm 33 weeks and had it the same through my last pregnancy. Like PP said it goes as soon as they are here

Hyggemama · 12/05/2019 06:52

All my sympathy. I'm 27 weeks and some nights are kept awake for hours by the discomfort. Definitely stress related - nk heartburn at all during Easter hols. I have found eating small amounts after lunch and not too much sugar really helps (tricky with cravings I know). Hope it gets better soon
