Hi,

I have a vague memory of the quinine in tonic water being an issue when pregnant? Is this right or can I drink tonic water? Thanks!

You'd have to drink an awful lot of it for it to be an issue IIRC.

Haven’t you googled it?

Quinine in treatment of malaria is not recommended in pregnancy. The amount of quinine in tonic water is in much lower levels, and there is no risk is recorded, but it’s not promoted as pregnancy friendly.

Therefore, depends on your risk appetite.

Tonic water is fine.

Occasionally putting a splash of Gin in it is also fine Grin

Thanks both.

Why would you want to drink tonic without gin? Grin

Starfish83 · 10/05/2019 18:38

Believe me, PCohle, I’d be all over the gin if I wasn’t preggers! 😂

You know, I actually don't drink tonic anymore, or the alcohol free g&t cans from Tesco.

I mentioned it to my consultant in passing, and she was very annoyed I was drinking it! I figured that as tonic water is sold as a beverage, and not regulated as medicine, it would be fine. And it probably is. But after my Dr insisting I stop, I have

I was recommended it by my midwife for leg cramps in the night so it can't be that bad. I've been drinking it.

I’ve been drinking loads for restless legs!

As above, Tonic Water is good for leg cramps
