Hey, I have recently found out that I am pregnant (5 + 3). First pregnancy and currently only me and my OH know - not planning on telling anyone until first scan. As this is my first pregnancy and I can't speak to anyone I don't really know where to start! I guess my first step would be making a doctors appointment. I just wondered what happens at this first appointment? Do you have a scan? Any advice would be great! Thank you :)

Following as I'm in the same boat. Only 4 weeks today just found out. Congratulations!

I have just moved and was on waiting list in my old nhs trust (literally next one along) for a laparoscopy as I have a blocked tube and endometriosis but have luckily just fallen.

I guess I should register at new gp and start midwife with my new area!

Hi phone your gp tell them that your pregnant and that u need your 1st midwife booking appointment,i never saw a dr just straight to midwife. At that appoitment its just lots of questions & finding out your due date etc & if u have any questions then have them ready to ask x

Phone and book app with GP, they won’t necessarily test you, they will just take your word for it that your pregnant (which surprised me) the GP will then contact midwife and you will get an appointment through the post.

Phone your GP surgery, some areas you self refer to the midwife, some areas you need an appointment with your GP who will take a brief history and then refer you to the midwives. Generally your first midwife appointment isn't until you are 8+ weeks pregnant.

You won't have your first scan until you are 12+ weeks pregnant, unless you have complications in the meantime. You can pay for a private scan when you are 6+ weeks if you would like an earlier scan.

The NHS website has good information in pregnancy including foods considered safe, recommended caffeine intake, exercise information and just general information.

Congratulations

They do things differently in each area but best start by calling GP to see what the process is! Some will ah w midwife clinics in house so will book your booking in for 8-10 weeks others you need to self refer to hospital.

At the booking in they'll book yours can for 12 weeksish and your next midwife appointment for 16! I've put a picture of the handy appointments flow chart in my notes
