Baby weight at 33 weeks vs term?

Hi all,
I'm 36W pregnant and it's measuring big which makes me nervous!

Realised that the EFW (expected fetal weight) was on the scan I had at 33W - it said 5lb 3oz.

I presume that is the expected weight at 33 weeks - any idea of what I might expect at term? In with the midwife next week but was trying to google to find the answer but it all got very medical!!

Thanks Smile

I think it depends on your "curve". Usually in your notes you have a chart. If you go to 33w and 5lb then follow that curve it should give you an estimate

Thanks - no such curve in mine, just weeks/cms...off back to google to see what I can find!!

I wouldn't worry too much about the growth scans. My friend had a scan at 33 weeks and they said the baby measured over 5 pounds, he was born full term weighing 7 pounds. I had the same scan and they estimated the weight at just 4 pounds and he was born weighing 9.5 pounds! Even at my last scan they predicted his birth weight to be 7 pounds! So in my experience I would take growth scans with a big pinch of salt.

Thanks @Lizbiz89 I was starting to wonder about options - am petrified about going over due as I've heard that's really when they pack on the pounds!!

@ryanreynolds I wouldn't get too hung up on the weight anyway. My first dc weighed 8 pounds and had the worst labour with her. Forceps, episiotomy, epidural etc. My ds who weighed 9.5 pounds was a much easier labour. Only an hour of bad pain, born less than an hour of arriving at mlu. Only a few stitches. I think there are other factors which affect labour a lot more than weight. Eg where the baby is positioned. Looking back im actually glad they predicted my ds weight to be much less than it was, otherwise I would have been much more anxious about the labour. Sometimes the less we know, the better lol!

Such measurement are incredibly inaccurate. One study found that mothers of one more than one child were better at predicting their baby weight than growth scans are.

My DD scan weights were:

32 weeks - 4lb1
36 weeks - 5lb8
38 weeks - 6lb1

She was born at 39+5 and weighed 6lb8

Thank you @octonoughtcake3 and @needanappp you have calmed me down!

Will just have to wait and see...!!

@octonoughtcake3 that's so interesting as I always thought my second would be over 9 pounds even though they kept telling me he wasn't big. Definitely will be trusting my own instincts if I was to have any more!

I though EFW was estimated fetal weight (at the time of scanning)? I had a growth scan at 33 weeks too and it was 1.9kg and bang on the 50th centile line. I followed the line to the end and it's saying it would be 3.7kg so just under double the weight at 33 weeks, if you've not got your personal growth curve in your notes that might be a reasonable way to have a guess? I've no idea how accurate that would be though.
