Looking young for your age

Hi all,

I’m 24 but look about 18. My last pregnancy last year which sadly ended in miscarriage. I found that when I had my first midwife appointment she spoke to my like I was a 16 year old that didn’t have a clue what I was doing. This really offended me!! I just always feel like when I go to any medical appointment I just get spoken to silly just because I look young.
Anyone else experienced this?

Thanks x

I used to experience this when I was was younger , more at work where people thought that I was the receptionist and were shocked when they realised I was the most qualified person in the team !!!

Sometimes people would ask me how long I had been qualified and try and work out how old I was and sometimes and I would just laugh and tell them ...

You should enjoy looking young! it probably means when you are 40 you are going to look 30 !!!

But the midwife should’ve known how old you are despite you looking young ... if you aren’t happy with the way a health professional deals with you maybe it’s worth addressing this with them and the service manager etc ..

Enjoy being young and looking young doesn’t last forever !x

I have experienced this so many times, I'm 25, 26 this year but look so young!!. I am currently pregnant with my third so you can imagine the looks I getGrin. When I went for an appointment a receptionist phoned round to get my book to another department and said "I've got a little girl here looking for her book". I said to her I'm not a little girl and you shouldn't use that phrase it's very offensive even if someone was young. She apologised etc. Sometimes I feel like shouting I'm 25 at university and been with my partner 8 years. I feel like am constantly judged by strangers and medical professionals for looking so young it's horrible!. but hey as everyone says we will look super good when were much older lol xx

I’m nearly 40 but look in my twenties. I find being firmly spoken, politely pushy, and polite but insistant / demanding helps me be taken very seriously. If you do your research and insist on being listened to you will definitely be heard.

I had to go to hospital for some bleeding early in pregnancy and twice when I was called in to be seen by different people they called 'mrsFlibble', looked at me and then said oh sorry 'missflibble'. I'm 33 and was there with my husband! I guess we both look pretty young but I'm not sure what the marriage cut off age seems to be in their imagination!

I'm 29 and work at a uni. I do look a few years younger and people have assumed I'm a student before. I've got a lot of stares since I started showing and wonder if it's cos people just see 'pregnant student'?
