How easy is it to change a 12 week scan date/time?

So I found myself in a predicament where a date and time for my scan has come through the maternity app but haven’t received a confirmation letter with details on how to change it.

Much to my annoyance my partner can’t apparently take that time off and he wants to be there and i would rather he be there too.

So I guess the question is how easy is it to change? And any experiences of when they changed too? Like would they change it to a couple of days later or a week? 😩

The original appointment would have placed me at 12 +5 weeks.

You should be able to change them fairly easily however I wouldn't delay it much more than a week as they need to do certain tests - I think for downs etc and that has to be done before a certain number of weeks to be more accurate? If you can't change It i would book a private scan for a day your partner can also go and just attend the NHS one solo x

I had to change mine as I was having the nuchal screening and if I didn't move it I would of been too fair in the pregnancy to have the screening. I rang scan enquiries (back of notes) and asked to change they were very abrupt and against me changing my scan until I explained why, may be different in your area but I don't think they would change them where I am x

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted That is a brilliant idea. If it changed significantly I would have to contemplate going by myself regardless which I think would upset the OH. But I wouldn’t want to take the risk, so a private scan beforehand would at least allow him to still be involved in some way!

@xJune2018 I think timing is what worried me as it would be a little different if it was planned for 10-11weeks but its getting more closer to the 14week mark if the date changed significantly so maybe a case could be put forward... just depends how busy they are I guess.

Also i’m in the uk-west midlands area.

Yeah I would of been over at the nhs scan if i hadn't of had a private scan before hand which moved me forward a week! I then had to ring and swap things pretty quickly. So could be a nice idea for you to do private with partner then at least you'll know dates for nhs scan too and if it cant be moved you've both experienced it together x

I'd just let them know now that you can't go on that day if it's the first you've been told about it. It's easy enough to invent a work trip that means you're not in the area and won't be back until X date a few days later which is also convenient for your partner. I had lots of scans and appointments during my pregnancy and changed one as I wanted to go to my work Christmas party (I know...) so just said I had a work thing that I couldn't get of easily and they were fine about it. From experience it gets harder to change things once you're in the third trimester because then they're all "you're legally entitled to antenatal apps" etc which is fine as my work are really flexible, but I personally didn't want to be at the hospital for 3 out of the 5 week days each week (and therefore losing a morning of work each time) when I could just bunch them together to save myself time.
