Hi everyone. I have been browsing mumsnet for many months now but I just signed up. ☺️

I am 25 years old, in March I had a MMC (missed miscarriage) I went for my 12 week scan and the baby had stopped weeks before my scan. I decided to miscarry naturally but I became very unwell and developed sepsis. The whole experience was traumatizing, it was my first pregnancy, the baby wasn't planned but my fiancé and I were super excited about having a baby.

As soon as I was feeling healthy and ready we decided to start TTC, I became pregnant after my first period since the MMC. I am so excited and happy but also very worried.

I am so afraid that it will happen again. I am checking for blood all the time. I am very early, about 4 weeks. But I have vaginal dryness. It is so dry and feels sore to touch, today it doesn't feel so bad but it's still there. Is this abnormal? Should I be concerned?

I have researched and apparently this can be a sign of low progesterone, and low progesterone can cause miscarriage.

Would my progesterone levels have been checked when I went to the hospital with bleeding in my last pregnancy? I had blood checks to check is I was negative blood type, but would progesterone levels have been checked also?

I am so worried I am going to lose this baby. I couldn't care to go through that again. I have been taking supplements, and conception supplements while TTC also. Trying to be health conscious.

Has anybody else experienced vaginal dryness/soreness so early in pregnancy?
I have a doctor appointment next week could I ask him to check for this?

Any advice is appreciated
Thank you ☺️

I didn't want to read and run. I'm sure someone will come along with some advice soon.

I would definitely bring it up with your gp and ask for your progesterone levels to be checked.

I hope you have a very happy and healthy pregnancy x

Progesterone levels aren't static and change throughout the cycle - so a test weeks ago would tell you nothing about levels now.

It's a bit of a chicken and an egg scenario: does low progesterone cause miscarriage, or is low progesterone a sign that the pregnancy isn't viable? Progesterone is NOT routinely prescribed because of this...

It honestly is just a waiting game. About 1% of pregnancies are Mac, so it's highly highly unlikely to happen again, I'm sorry you had to go through all that!! And the sepsis on top??

Be kind to yourself. Take one day at a time.

Low progesterone can be a sign of some hormonal conditions but there are other symptoms. I’ll list the ones I have:

  1. Constant vaginal dryness that never improves at any point in my cycle. Even when I’m turned on I am often still dry.
  1. Brown spotting before and after my period and during ovulation. Fertility specialist said this is often the biggest sign something’s wrong.
  1. A hormone condition (PCOS) that can cause low progesterone levels when you are above a certain weight.

Fertility specialist also said that during pregnancy even women with progesterone who haven’t had fertility treatment to get their BFP don’t always need progesterone supplementation. The goal is monitor progesterone levels several times a week and only intervene when you feel like the trend is decreasing significantly. Also I was told mmc tends to go hand in hand with higher progesterone levels as the progesterone helps the body retain the baby when it should be expelled.

I guess you could mention the dryness to your midwife and get them to check you out, but would they be willing to refer you for further testing? Maybe ask the question.
