Reduced movement - wait for appointment

Hey, I'm 31 weeks. After a very active baby day yesterday and most of the evening, I've not felt any movement really since about 10pm last night.

I've managed to get a midwife appointment at my local GP but it's not for nearly 4 hours. The other option is to go into the hospital, but hard to say if they'd be able to see me any quicker.

Just wondering if others have had this and think the wait is ok?

OP you need to go in I'm sorry to scare you but my friend has this and her son was stillborn she was still feeling slight kicks but it was just him moving about the movements was very light and nothing like before. The midwives refused to scan her she went in four times in two days, he could of been saved he had the cord wrapped around him and had something like 27 blood clots. She's now taking them to court. She only found out he had died when she went to a second hospital and begged them for help they scanned her same hour.

Not saying for once that this is your case I've worded my original wrong, but the same symptoms as you.

I went in earlier this week because although I'd had a few movements they were out of pattern and felt muffled, and my usual tactics weren't leading to activity as normal. An hour on the monitor and a scan and all was declared well but they were perfectly happy that I'd been.
I phoned maternity triage who in turn got me booked into the maternity day unit locally, that's what my notes say to do with any concerns after 16 weeks

Thanks all - pretty scary to have such different advice. I was surprised they didn't tell me to come in, to be honest. I'd gone in at 23 weeks on their encouragement.

This said, I'm feeling ok now. I went to see community midwife and heard the heartbeat which was nice and strong. No scan but I've had much more movement this afternoon. I'm going to monitor this evening but feeling positive. I wonder if one of the things that felt odd is that I wasn't at work, and I find my work chair incredibly uncomfortable so when I feel kicks it's extra painful around my ribs and really noticeable, whereas today I've either been lying down or moving around.

It's going to be a nerve wracking 9 weeks I think

Yeah, it can be a very anxiety-inducing time! I ended up going in about movements more when off work too. I think you have more time to think about it when you're off, which changes your perception of how many there are. Glad you're happy with it now. Bear in mind though that heartbeat should not be used as the sole indicator of foetal health. This is why midwives discourage home dopplers.

Glad everything is ok OP.

Do go in anytime you feel any difference though as there’s a huge focus on stillborn at the moment.

I had reduced movement through my pregnancy and the 5th episode the consultant suggested I go ahead with being induced and so I did that same evening. Had my boy in March & thankfully all is well & it was an amazing birth but every time I went in they were very much saying to make sure that if there’s ANY change in movement then to go in.

You know your baby & movements and body more than anyone else so do follow your gut instinct. You are not being silly for calling and going in - it’s your baby’s life at stake.

They also told me that although growth scans are looking good and heartbeat was strong that they couldn’t rule anything out since they can only monitor so much and anything cold happen.

I had him at 37 weeks 6 days so I made it to an ok stage of pregnancy thankfully.

Any talk of stillborn really scared me but they have to be realistic and inform us and that’s really good thing.

Apparently many women who go onto stillborn have said they had reduced movement then it happen and so there’s a huge emphasis on it since uk apparently still has big numbers of stillborn for a first world country.

Just don’t hesitate at all OP go in whenever you need to it’s what they are there for :)
