Bannatyne Health Club - Refusing Pregnant Girlfriend from using the Loo

My girlfriend is 20 weeks pregnant and her job involves being on the road quite a bit. As you can imagine access to the loo can be tricky at the best of times, but while pregnant the urge to go is that bit greater. I can't vouch for this myself, but there's some science to it.

Recently she was refused from using the loos at a Bannatyne Health Club in the West Midlands, as you can imagine this is quite upsetting.

I was wondering if any other people had similar experiences with this chain or any other corporates who can afford to cover the small increase in insurance costs and have a department who can quite easily manage the additional complexities of writing a method statement/risk assessment for a pregnant lady to use their bathroom?

Is she a member of the club? If not then they don’t have to permit entry

Firsttimeuser12 · 03/05/2019 09:36

Worked up to 38 weeks as a regional manager, travelled around 1000 miles a week on a quiet week. It is uncomfortable if you're bursting for the loo but plenty of services out there...

Cookit · 03/05/2019 09:41

It would have been common courtesy for them to have let her use the loos but not something I’d get worked up about.

SoHotADragonRetired · 03/05/2019 09:55

Oh fgs. It's a members club; they are entitled to refuse any nonmember access. It would have been nice if they let her, but an injustice requiring a campaign and Daily Mail sad face, it is not.

There are apps showing public toilets she can download.

Being pregnant doesn't mean we're entitled to use a loo! I would completely understand if they refused me, it's not worth the righteous anger! It's sweet you are on your partner's side, but reign in the entitlement

Fucking hell. Your partner is an adult - she knows she is pregnant and is on the road a lot so she will need to plan her journeys better rather than hoping members only business will have the staff to escort your partner to the toilet then out the door to make sure she’s not trying it on to sneak in the spa.

Buy her a she wee. Job done.

coral13 · 03/05/2019 10:24

I'm 27 weeks and don't see the issue. I needed to do a wee a lot before I was even pregnant. If we are doing a lot of driving, I make sure I stop enough at places I know I can use with no problems (McDonald's are everywhere!).

pearldeodorant · 03/05/2019 10:27

I'd say move on with your life tbh. It's annoying I agree but hardly worth being worked up about

SnakesBarmitzvah · 03/05/2019 15:11

Letting her use the facilities would have been the decent thing to do but they are under no obligation.

She might have just encountered a job's worth on the day.

I doubt it's a company policy.

As others have said, let it go..

Darkstar4855 · 03/05/2019 15:47

I doubt it’s got anything to do with having a risk assessment done, they probably just don’t let non-members use their toilets. It’s frustrating when you’re in that situation but being pregnant doesn’t give you the right to use a toilet. Just be thankful she’s only got another twenty weeks!
