For those who have Gestational Diabetes and are in Metformin have you decided or when did you leave work?
I know it means induction is more likely around 38 weeks....

I was booked foe induction at 37.5 weeks which i found out about around 30 weeks.

I started mat leave at 36.5 weeks as thought a week at home would be nice before baby arrived, in reality i was bored and had too much time to think about how big and uncomfortable i was so i regretted not just working till the end.

If the gd is under control and no other medical issues you will be able to start your maternity leave when you like! I was on Metformin for both my pregnancies.

My first pregnancy I started maternity leave the day after the birth! unrelated to taking Metformin. Was due to leave a week later.

The second I struggled more as big baby and I left at 35weeks. She didn't arrive until 40weeks. It was nice having the 5 weeks not having to go out to work in the ice and having some time with my first.

I've got 19 days holiday to use prior that they won't let me role to next year @Lwmommy @Ratbagratty so having to have a couple of weeks off before even though I'd like to work right up until a few days before induction

Unless your GD gets uncontrollable then or you are otherwise unwell just plan to work as late as possible and make sure you have stuff to occupy y ou and keep you distracted during those 19 days.

I walked ALOT which i swear made labour easier and quicker. Id head out in the morning and just waddle around stopping regularly for a drink or something to eat. I was easily doing 10 miles of plodding a day.

I had 4.5 hrs active labour and 2 pushes. The long bit was waiting for the pessary to start the labour, that took 24 hrs.

Technically your maternity leave doesn't need to start until your official due date (not your induction date). If baby arrives while you're still at work, then your mat leave starts the following day automatically. But if you're on holiday already for a few weeks before your due date, then mat leave should still start on your due date as far as I'm aware! So you could technically put down your due date as official start date of mat leave, and take your 19 days off before that... bringing you a few weeks before due date, which shouldn't be too long before your induction right? That's what I would do anyway!

I thought maternity leave kicks in as soon as baby is born? @purplemama1990 I'll do a bit of research x

Take your 19 days leave to end the day of your induction. Then ML can kick in from the following day. (this is assuming you want to work as long as possible). I am pretty sure compulsory Mat leave kicks in once baby is born if it hasn't already started.

purplemama1990 · 02/05/2019 16:50

I might be wrong on this, but if you're already on holiday, do they actually check up on when your baby was born to alter your mat leave and payments to that date? What then happens to the holidays you're entitled to that you had already booked?

purplemama1990 · 02/05/2019 16:52

I'm asking because I'm planning to officially start my mat leave on due date, but unofficially start it at 38 weeks by using 2 weeks holiday... if baby is born at say 39 weeks, will they check and start my mat leave and payments then and I lose out on that week of paid holiday? I'm not allowed to carry over holidays either...

Ratbagratty · 02/05/2019 18:20

Maternity leave starts the day after baby is born. If you have holiday to use up I would recommend using some up before going on mat leave instead of extending it. Have a week off when you are still able to get out and go to see a film without needing the toilet in the middle!

purplemama1990 · 03/05/2019 08:27

My question is how do they know the baby was born early if I'm already off work? We don't need to provide evidence of this to work do we? Sorry if I'm just being really stupid here! Blush
