Hospital bag(s)

So I'm currently planning what to put in mine and baby's hospital bags. Mainly as I'm bored but I'm also being nagged to do it by family members.
I've had a search to find other threads and think I've got everything but can anyone check if I've missed anything please 🙏 I will be sorting the items into further bags (short stay and long stay) as I'm aware I don't want to have to carry loads of stuff in, take up loads of room and then not need it because I have a straightforward birth and go home quickly.
Not on the list but will be taken with me is a pillow and a nursing pillow as well.

This looks almost identical to my list! (Just putting the final items in the bag now.)

I've also got on my list: nursing bras/vests, a couple of flannels (for DP to mop my brow!) and a couple of plastic shopping bags to put any soiled stuff in.

nic01234 · 02/05/2019 12:16

Oh and I was also advised to get DP to pack the bag, so he knows where to find everything if/when I need it!

That’s a great idea Nic, I remember getting annoyed that my partner couldn’t find anything we needed in the bags!

CloudPop · 02/05/2019 16:31

I took a couple of decent pillows from home and they were invaluable

mylittlenugget · 02/05/2019 16:57

I do have a nursing bra so that shall go in. Hadn't thought of flannels but that's clever. And I love the idea of my partner packing the bag - I'm definitely the type to get really frustrated if he can't find something straight away. The plastic bags are a great idea too, I hadn't really considered some of it might be clean whilst some of it might be really dirty from sweat and probably blood too so I don't want to mix those up!

Nursing bras.
Car seat if you’re driving (we were out quickly so saved trip home to fetch it).
Cash for car parking 🙄
(Emergency) formula in case of feeding issues - check your hospital policy on that, some provide initially.
Reading material / kindle / iPad with stuff loaded.
Pillow, hospital ones aren’t great

Updated list! Does this sound okay? I'll have a back up bag at home for extra nappies and outfits but don't have enough room in either bag for loads of extras for just in cases

Car seat will be put in the car in the next couple of weeks because there's a base thingy so it makes sense to just have it there.
Our hospital provides formula if there's breastfeeding issues and there's a Sainsbury's opposite the hospital if we were desperate but that's a good shout, I'll put in some sterilised bottles.

List looking fab 👍🏼
For ‘shower shoes’, I took a pair of cheap flip flops from Primark with ribbed soles and chucked them afterwards, the floors in there were not great.
Also, I took a water mist spray, like this one and it was fab: www.laroche-posay.co.uk/thermal-spring-water-conf

mylittlenugget · 05/05/2019 20:45

The shower shoes shall be my partners sisters sliders she wears between the blow up swimming pool and back door in the summer so I'm not too worried about their state after.
Did you use the spray just on baby or during labour too?

The spray just during labour and afterwards too on my face, I got very hot and my lips dried (forgot lip balm!) but not everyone does. It’s only little & fitted in my cosmetics bag.

mylittlenugget · 05/05/2019 21:05

Thank you I'll buy one!

Great list! Hope you don't mind if I borrow it? Can't for the life of me remember what was in mine first time round. My random suggestion is a sports bottle of water. It was very handy to use to rinse after you've used the toilet post labour. I added a bit of witch hazel too.

mylittlenugget · 05/05/2019 21:43

Feel free to use it! Thank you for thinking it's good enough to use 😊
I was planning on just rinsing a lucozade sports bottle out and using that but I shall have a look at where to get witch hazel because I've seen that mentioned lots thank you!

One tip I used for my first was to pack complete baby outfits in sandwich bags so they are easy to find. I’ll be doing that again.

mylittlenugget · 05/05/2019 22:03

Ooh that sounds useful. So far I've just folded things like the hats and vest up inside the sleepsuit and then folding the sleepsuit if that makes sense but sandwich bags is a good shout too! Then once they're dirty I can distinguish them a bit easier too!

Way more nappies and spare Pjs for you.

mylittlenugget · 06/05/2019 22:23

More nappies will be in a bag ready to be brought to hospital if needs be.
Not specified on list but by pyjamas I have one set of trousers and t shirt, and I'll have a nightie as well. Because i bought them and then put them straight into the bag I didn't think to specify but good to point out for anyone else who is looking at this thread for help Smile
In my spare bag will be more outfits for me, more nappies of the right size, another set of pyjamas for me, and some more wash stuff. Not putting baby outfits in the bag because we don't know how big she'll be and we might need to actually go out and buy more outfits because she's too small for what we've got, and my partner is capable of choosing her outfits where I'm less comfortable with him choosing mine Grin
