Coping with iron deficiency during work

Hi! Anyone pregnant and working while having iron deficiency? I am on iron tablets, but am wondering how to cope with the dizziness at work, especially when reading from a screen.

Try the Spatine sachets, they are more easily absorbed than the tablets.

I get dizzy & tired when looking at my screen for too long as well and step outside for some fresh air or even a 5 min walk.

Another vote for spatone. Take it with orange juice and it absorbs better. I threw away the iron tablets that I had prescribed as they made me very ill and I couldn't of coped at work with them.

Thank you, good to know.

Keep really well hydrated and take regular breaks to stand up (slowly!) and take a few steps, get everything circulating again. Posture in pregnancy can also contribute.

I found it tough. I had extra breaks worked into my schedule, and it really helped me to stay hydrated. I'm still slightly aneamic even now at 23 weeks, but my iron tablets really have helped. However it did take roughly three weeks for me to really feel the effects

Did you feel that the dizziness was better after emptying your bowel? It is really weird, but I feel really woozy sitting 90 degrees on a chair, but laying back on the sofa, I am fine. Almost as if something is cutting off my blood supply when I am sitting. The midwife said it is strange as it is normally the other way around.

I found it really tough. Sitting forward helped me a bit. Ask for liquid iron (from gp) rather than tablets and dont take first thing. I ended up signed off for a couple of times too when I needed iv iron. Try and take it easy as much as possible.

Thank you Smile

I took the first week off sick, while the tablets started to take effect. I was fainting etc and just not safe to be working (home visits, driving etc).

Once I felt confident I wasn’t going to pass out I returned to work.
