Hi all. I had my GTT this morning. I was given rapilose at my last appointment and told to drink it at home 2 hours before my appointment. My apt was 9.10am and I drank the rapilose at 7.10, had finished it by 7.15am. Arrived at the hospital at 8.55am. Did self check in, all fine no probs. Waited. And waited. And waited. 9.45 I get called 'Is MakeaWhish waiting?' I stand up and she looks worried. I follow her and she says, we've only just realised you're here. We've missed the 2.15hour window to do the blood test. We can do it now, but the results won't be as accurate. Or you can rebook. So, I did what any self respecting 27 week pregnant woman would do, and cried (damn hormones) I said I was only having the test because My bmi was just over 30. She said oh I'm sure you're fine, and has taken my bloods.
Anyone with any advice about whether I should re book? Or do you think another 15 mins won't have made much difference?

Wasn't it 35 minutes difference though? You're appt was at 9.10 but they didn't see you til 9.45.

Normally they take your fasting blood when you arrive then you have the drink and they take your blood again after one hour (or 2 in your case, it seems). It sounds a bit strange that they don't measure your pre-glucose drink levels as that gives them nothing to compare to. Are you abroad? I am too but here they do it the same as in the UK and I thought it was the same everywhere to be honest...

Sorry about the questions, I just want to understand better!

I personally would see how close to the cut-off the results come back and decide then whether to re-book. The nurse's "I'm sure you'll be fine" is neither here nor there as she has no idea what's going on inside your body! I'm an active size 6, very healthy eater and mine came back positive so I had to go back for the 3-hour one.

Thank you for your reply. I'm in the Uk, but they seem to do it differently in my area, I'll attach a photo of the instructions I was given. Apparently they should have taken my bloods at the latest, 9.30am, but it was 9.45 in the end. I'm hoping 15 mins doesn't make much difference. * nb picture not loading but the instructions are drink the drink at home 2 hrs before apt then come in for blood test. They don't take a fasted blood sample in my area.

Ah, I see. It sounds odd but I guess they must know what they're doing!

So, I would do as I said above as I'm sure 15 minutes won't make too much difference but I'd rebook if near the cut-off limit. Hopefully though they will have made a note on your file so that they can make that decision for you depending on your results.

Sorry you ended up crying! I threw up halfway through my 3-hour test after doing a special diet for 3 days in preparation and only sleeping 3 hours beforehand as I work evenings and my appt was so early. It meant that, after all that, my test was void and I cried too!

Instead of going through that again, I'm pricking my finger and measuring my own blood sugar for a month which is actually preferable! From my results so far, I'm well within the limits even when being naughty so hopefully that means no GD!

Oh, you poor thing!! That sounds awful - I'm so glad you don't have to repeat that. I'll see what the results say and if borderline I'll re book I think. Thanks again for your advice and experience!

Good luck! Flowers

I'm sorry but 15 minutes can make a huge difference to blood glucose levels. I also find it odd that they don't to a fasting level in your area as many women struggle more with fasting than post meals and are diagnosed only on the first reading.

MakeAWhish · 01/05/2019 15:13

It's shit isn't it @Changingagain . I'm so annoyed. I've a midwife apt next week so I'll talk it through with her then.
