Urine samples..

Is there a knack to peeing accurately in the pots provided for urine samples? Could do with some tips to actually get the sample in the pot (and not all over my hand... 😬)

I have a small jug in the bathroom cupboard and always do it in that and then pour into the bottle on the morning of an appointment. I cannot pee straight into the bottle without it going everywhere.

2dogsandPG · 30/04/2019 15:54

Changingagain I wish I had read this earlier on in my pregnancy! This makes so much sense! 🤦‍♀️ Hopefully not too long left for me but I'll be doing this in the future. Thank you 🙂

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 30/04/2019 16:00

A side benefit to booking with our homebirth team was just taking the cardboard stick and weeing straight onto it in my own loo. I only pissed on my hands twice this pregnancy, both of them were attending consultant appointments Hmm

purplemama1990 · 01/05/2019 16:12

I do the same as Changingagain, I use a plastic cup (which I can then throw away), and then pour it into the little pots. They are ridiculously narrow, there's no way I would manage to actually pee directly in them!

Andrea91 · 01/05/2019 16:58

I asked to give samples at my appointment and usually give cardboard pot which is easier than pot. Next appointment ask to take some home with you

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 01/05/2019 17:00

God, in my area they don't just give you the bloody sample pot they give you a little cup to wee into first, which has a little spout you pour into the sample pot.

HowTF do they expect ppl to wee into a 1cm necked pot?!
My sympathies FlowersFlowersFlowers

SRK16 · 01/05/2019 22:05

I’m glad it’s not just me- I started thinking I must have some kind of problem to not be able to aim into it! Maybe I shall invest in a little jug/pot of some description!

I'm not pregnant but have to do loads of urine samples for my bladder conditions. I have a wide cheap plastic measuring jug that I can just drop in the loo, do my wee & lift out to pour in to a sample pot. No wet hands, dead easy.

Erm.... Single use plastic!!!

purplemama1990 · 02/05/2019 16:08

SnakesBarmitzvah Thank you for your very judgemental comment! I'm sorry, I didn't realise this was where we are all judged for not being environmentally friendly 100% of the time. Thought this was a thread about discussing urine samples?

But if you're going to judge me for using single use plastic items, then you should also know I buy pretty much all of my groceries in single use plastic packaging, I use disposable straws (the plastic kind, not the paper ones!), and I will be using disposable nappies too.... and the list goes on. Hope that clarifies my choice to use plastic cups to pee in!

The urine doesn't need to be newly passed (or should that be pissed?) for the dipsticks they use for normal tests in pregnancy.

So take a couple of the pots home with you, and then you can do it in the comfort of your own home in your ROC

(Any other oldies know what I mean?)

cough I can actually get it into the specimen tube Blush

Having said that I may struggle with a large bump.

purplemama1990 · 02/05/2019 16:41

@SnakesBarmitzvah I'm not bragging about it, just pointing out that your comment isn't needed here. My point is that this thread has nothing to do with being environmentally friendly, and if you're going to judge me for that, then you should judge me for everything else too and judge everyone else for doing this things too.

Out of interest, how many times have you got in a car recently? or on a bus? or used electricity in your house? or bought new clothes? or a new phone? or used one of those "biodegradable" plastic bags which actually don't biodegrade due to the way we dispose of them in landfill.... Everything in our current lives in unsustainable unfortunately, and your comment about my plastic cup isn't needed here at all.

You don't know the things I do to try to be environmentally friendly, you don't know the industry I work in (sustainability in the construction industry... probably has more of a positive impact on the environment than me not using a plastic cup btw!), you don't know anything about me. There's a time and place for those kind of comments, and it certainly isn't here. If you really wanted to point out that it wasn't good for the environment, I'm sure you could have come up with a much nicer and less judgemental way of saying it.

Also, thanks for the lovely insult at the end of your post which now means I have a reason to report you :)

purplemama1990 · 02/05/2019 16:47

@SnakesBarmitzvah Also forgot to mention my solar panels I've had installed on the roof of my house for the past 10 years, helping to generate clean energy for my house and feeding the excess into the grid for everyone else. Do you have those? Am I judging you for not having them? NO, because we're here talking about pee!

SnakesBarmitzvah · 02/05/2019 16:49

@purplemama1990 Are you new here?

purplemama1990 · 02/05/2019 16:57

@SnakesBarmitzvah are you? Am I missing something?

SnakesBarmitzvah · 02/05/2019 18:39

@purplemama1990 Am I missing something?

Evidently! Grin

purplemama1990 · 03/05/2019 08:24

@SnakesBarmitzvah right ok, whatever! not new at all btw.. just don't enjoy being judged when someone knows nothing about me and then chooses to insult me on top of that. have a nice day :)

SRK16 · 03/05/2019 09:47

Well that escalated 🙄
...
So I guess peeing into a larger object and decanting it is the best way? I’d better buy a jug.

I have a "pee cup" for this very reason!

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 03/05/2019 12:53

My old Grannie had a gravy boat in her bathroom. It always confused me. Many years later I now realise it was for collecting urine samples as she was prone to UTIs. Literally just worked it out now and called mum to check.

katmarie · 03/05/2019 13:08

I'm on pregnancy number 2. After several incidents with wet hands and missing the pot first time round, I now have a special Pee Jug. It's labeled and everything. So much easier.

Thismummyruns · 03/05/2019 14:01

I've had to use either plastic cups or the cardboard ones (unused of course!)

I asked this same question at the start of this pregnancy, number 2 may I add, as I had to do most samples at work due to late in the afternoon appointments and was fed up of basically p*ssing over my hand in the work loo's.

Congrats to anyone who has a better aim than me!
