Thinking way into the future now. Currently 29+6 with my first.

I'm interested to hear whether your second pregnancy was harder? Easier? How it was..Different?

This pregnancy hasn't been fun. Awful sickness to 12 weeks. Constipated. Piles. Can't get comfortable.

Not sure I could do it all again. Especially with a child to look after.

My first pregnancy was easy. Hardly any morning sickness, I was just quite tired in the first trimester. I’m currently 22w and I had everyday sickness & felt awful for about 4 months. I also spotted around 11w which was scary. I’m pretty sure we are done at 2 DC anyway, but the start of this pregnancy definitely put me off!

For me they were just different. With DD1 I was absolutely exhausted and when I got pregnant with second was really worried about how I’d cope with tiredness and a 3Yo but turns out that wasn’t too bad, actually I had horrid sickness up to about 35 weeks with no2 which when you are potty training is hideous! Hadn’t seen that coming as had very little sickness with DD1 beyond the first trimester.

We had planned to have them close together (pre having any idea what was going to hit us!) but after DD1 it took me a couple of years to feel like I could cope with pregnancy/ birth again so we’ve ended up with a 3 year gap, which I think has made it easier to cope.

First pregnancy was not great - suffered with sciatica, carpel tunnel, had pre-eclampsia.... I was pregnant again within a year and my second one I sailed through without issues, though the birth was horrendous.

1st pregnancy was tough but manageable. I had morning sickness until 10 weeks, so not bad at all, but spd kicked in at about 13 weeks and made things difficult.

This pregnancy has been horrific. I have been sick nearly the whole way through, I'm having problems with my bladder, my blood pressure is so low I faint all the time, I'm exhausted, my pelvis is fucked and I have a trapped nerve that makes me feel like I am being constantly kicked in the fanjo. I can barely get about and I'm struggling hugely with my 5yo dd. I feel like I have no patience because I'm so tired and in so much pain. I just want my baby here now so I can try and get back to normal (I'm nearly 35 weeks).

My first pregnancy with ds was hard but manageable. I had spd and was tired all the time. I also had a hard birth.

With DD I was sick all the way through, suffered with my mental health, bleeds and various other issues that had me in and out of hospital. But the birth was calm (I had aplanned section)

As babies though ds didn't sleep, cried all day every day unless we were out.
DD sleeps good for a 12 week old, is really chill and is happy to be put down for short amount of times and listen to the noise of the shower so I can wash.

Harder in some ways, easier in others.

First had more morning sickness, more heartburn, more weight gain. The Labour itself was complicated so less 'enjoyable' if that's the right phrase.

Second had more SPD from around 14 weeks but a lot less nausea and no vomiting. Labour was better but longer as didn't have an EMCS. I also had a PPH so had longer recovery, compared to the CS of first.

It's a mix really.
Good luck with your pregnancy.

The main difference for me is I’ve felt much more tired 2nd time round. I had a pretty easy pregnancy with my first - no sickness, only mild nausea and all my energy returned in the second trimester. This time the tiredness just hasn’t gone away and I feel exhausted but I put this down to having a 2 year old to look after! One positive aspect is that mentally I’ve been much less anxious 2nd time and time has flown by so much quicker than the first time.

IntoValhalla · 29/04/2019 11:36

My first pregnancy was horrific - I had hyperemesis all the way through. Felt like I was actually dying.
Second one was easier as my sickness was nowhere near as severe and lasted for around 14/15 weeks rather than the whole pregnancy. The tiredness was a killer second time though - when you’ve got a toddler to take care of, you can’t just have a nap if you need to like you can with the first one!
I’m halfway through my third pregnancy at the moment (DCs are now 4 and 2) and I won’t lie - it’s hit me like a bus this time. I can’t even explain how tired I am. DCs still don’t sleep well, so that coupled with pregnancy fatigue is awful Confused

A real mixed bag. Will see how the next 10
Weeks go. Hopefully it'll go smoothly and I'll soon forget how hard being pregnant has been!

Second one harder as being 7 months pregnant with a 14 months old has been really hard

Ragh · 30/04/2019 11:25

First time tiredness, nausea and discharge were significantly worse. Second time piles, swelling and hip pain were all new to me. You get what you're given so to speak!

PowerslidePanda · 30/04/2019 13:04

I suffered terribly with morning sickness in my first pregnancy. I lost 16lb in my first trimester and although it did improve after that, I continued vomiting a couple of times a week for the whole 9 months.

People told me that every pregnancy is different and the next one might not be so bad, but I was sceptical - I figured if you're someone who really suffers with it, that's just the way you are. After all, Kate Middleton was hospitalised with all 3. However, I'm now 10 weeks into my second pregnancy and the morning sickness is far more mild - despite the fact that it's twins this time!

Really hope the acid reflux I got in the third trimester is better this time around - we'll see!

TwittleBee · 30/04/2019 15:43

All my pregnancies have been different.

My first pregnancy I had sickness throughout but it wasnt that bad and I found that as long as I ate often then I could control it. But I suffered terribly with constipation, piles and SPD.

This pregnancy, my sickness has been awful (it appears to get worse each pregnancy) and I have only recently returned to my pre-pregnancy weight at 20 weeks as I found I couldnt keep much down at all. But no piles (yet) and no SPD (yet) ! But then I have also been suffering with insomnia this time round too.

Teddybear45 · 30/04/2019 16:04

I was told taking a prenatal throughout nursing and ttc, keeping on top of nutritional deficiencies, and exercising pre-pregnancy tends to control most pregnancy symptoms. I went through IVF and most of my symptoms were not as bad as they usually are before my period; mainly because I was forced to take care of myself during the IVF process (used to eat loads of chicken everyday for folate and protein and to keep the pcos at bay for example).

KateTTC123 · 30/04/2019 19:47

Sorry to say but mine has been very similar. Horribly sick until almost the same day at 17 weeks. The major difference has been that baby 1 arrived at 29 weeks for unknown reasons and now I'm 38 weeks with baby 2. However my whole pregnancy has been very anxious because of what happened last time.
I'm glad I'll have 2 because I've always wanted 2 kids but I will NEVER do this again.
