DH hasn't spoken to work about paternity leave

Shit... I only just found out DH was supposed to speak to work about taking paternity leave by 25 weeks, I'm now 27 weeks. Will he still be able to take it? I sorted mine out but neither of us properly thought about this!

His colleagues, manager etc. are all aware I'm pregnant but he hasn't discussed with HR or anything.

It will probably be fine, but make him do it this week!

englishdictionary · 28/04/2019 21:21

Will he still be able to take it?

Only his work can answer that.

Triskaidekaphilia · 28/04/2019 21:22

He is going to speak to them tomorrow, just hope they can sort something out.

dementedpixie · 28/04/2019 21:22

Only his employer can say whether he can still take it. He better talk to them asap

Pppppppp1234 · 28/04/2019 21:23

He should have handed in your matb1 form just as you did OP. He should be fine to hand a copy of this in tomorrow, this just shows he is entitled to be paid by the govt!

Triskaidekaphilia · 28/04/2019 21:26

I guess if not the only real option will be unpaid leave, but we could do with not losing out on the two weeks pay. Mine was sorted ages ago and I feel like we were both pretty stupid not to consider his!

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 28/04/2019 21:31

They don't actually need a copy of the matb1 btw

Triskaidekaphilia · 28/04/2019 21:35

Yes I thought so @dementedpixie as my work took the original.

Triskaidekaphilia · 28/04/2019 21:39

Perhaps I should have phrased 'can he still take it' as 'has this happened to anyone and it worked out ok' as I am aware that only his work can say for sure, just very anxious while I wait!

Ours do to get the occupational element as well as the statutory!

Butterymuffin · 28/04/2019 21:49

What are his work usually like about asking for leave and making arrangements late on? That's your best guide to how they'll be about this.

Triskaidekaphilia · 28/04/2019 21:51

Fair enough @Pppppppp1234, judging by what I know of my DH's workplace it will be statutory though. Given their approach to staff it may well be a no tomorrow but he'll try.

OP posts:
Triskaidekaphilia · 28/04/2019 21:54

@Butterymuffin they don't generally treat staff that well but are known to be a little more flexible with parents and pregnant women. When it came to antenatal appointments they allowed him to use annual leave with only a few days notice (they have a strict 4 week policy) if he didn't want to lose pay for those days. His colleague who is due a few days after me is allowed to sit down at the till and I'm not at my work!

AnotherRubberDuck · 28/04/2019 21:57

DH hasn't arranged his either. I'm 35 weeks! Hmm

Triskaidekaphilia · 28/04/2019 22:15

@AnotherRubberDuck Shock I hope he's able to sort it! Do his work know you're pregnant and due soon?

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 28/04/2019 22:19

They're supposed to inform work by week 25 to be eligible for leave and pay

AnotherRubberDuck · 28/04/2019 22:25

Yes, they know we're expecting, and soon. They've recently given him a form he says he "should probably fill in soon". You think?!? 🙄

RMarieClaire · 28/04/2019 22:26

Gah. Just realised my OH has done the same thing - or not done in fact. His work know but I'm not sure he's gone through all the HR process. I'm 30 weeks now so may be too late - hopefully not

Triskaidekaphilia · 30/04/2019 23:13

To update, DH asked work and was just told to fill out a standard sc3 form, which he's bringing in tomorrow. The hr person he spoke to doesn't think it will be an issue because he had unnofficially informed work beforehand, but I guess there is a chance it will get declined once its been processed. @AnotherRubberDuck and @RMarieClaire I hope yours are able to get thiers sorted.

OP my dearest husband also only mentioned to his work that i was pregnant and he would like to take 2 weeks paternity pay but didn't do anything official about it until...I think about 32 weeks and I found out and freaked out. It was fine, he did it as soon as then and HR just processed it. I hope it will be for you too!

octonoughtcake3 · 01/05/2019 12:31

Just realised that DH probably hasn’t told his work. It’s our second child so you would think he would know better but his work are pretty flexible.

eightoclock · 01/05/2019 22:10

It's only 2 weeks late, I doubt it's unusual - as evidenced by this thread. They'd be pretty mean to stop him!

RMarieClaire · 02/05/2019 07:36

That's good @Triskaidekaphilia

Quite the pattern here!
