Hi all!
I hope you are having a lovely weekend Smile
We have just recently had the amazing news that we are pregnant, and are in the manic information gathering stages! I was wondering if any of you could recommend a good documentary/series/movie and pregnancy so we can learn more? Thanks so much xxxx

congratulations!

I loved a documentary called Babies. It follows 4 babies through pregnancy and their first year of life in the USA, Namibia, Japan and Mongolia and I found it so reassuring. There's no narration or explanation, just how the babies are cared for and develop.

@Xiaoxiong sounds great thank you :) xxx

I was really interested in how babies developed in the womb so watched some you tube videos. There is one in particular that takes you from conception through to birth with actual video footage from inside the womb. It was fascinating watching the baby develop and grow from a tiny little egg!

jennymac31 · 28/04/2019 20:25

I would also recommend watching 'Babies', as it was a really good documentary.

Hey congratulations 💗 Isn’t any of the above but the digital pack by The Positive Birth Company is super useful for pregnancy & labour info plus so much more :)

octonoughtcake3 · 29/04/2019 07:32

I have the positive birth book and positive birth hypnobirthing pack. Confusing they are by different people! But this is my second baby and I highly recommend them both.

FaithEloise · 29/04/2019 08:49

One born every minute? Does that count as a documentary? I watched them all while pregnant with my last, made me so excited to go into labour but i did cry everytime a baby was born.. hormones

ilovecatsabittoomuch · 29/04/2019 16:24

@snoopy18 @octonoughtcake3 have heard such good things about the Positive Birth Company! @FaithEloise yess totally forgot about one born every minute! Haha I think I will get pretty emotional too! Xxx

Every I’ve read says don’t watch one born every minute.

FaithEloise · 29/04/2019 17:46

Ohh really and why is that?😑

octonoughtcake3 · 29/04/2019 18:00

It’s doesn’t show the reality of lots of boring waiting and tends to show more dramatic rather than uneventful labour so you think of labour as something scary

FaithEloise · 29/04/2019 20:25

I'd say labour is pretty scary wouldn't you?..

mynameiscalypso · 29/04/2019 20:30

My midwife and consultant both said to stay well away from OBEM too.

Rubberduckies · 30/04/2019 07:53

The woman from the positive birth company points out that one born is made to be dramatic because it's for TV. Use of music, cliff hangers, choice of stories etc. She suggested going on YouTube and searching home births, water births, hypnobirths because they are raw footage and haven't been edited. I've found the videos amazing.

FaithEloise · 30/04/2019 09:34

Oh i am sorry snowflakes.

Tefiti2 · 30/04/2019 10:31

@FaithEloise you don’t need to get so defensive - it’s a known fact that One Born Every Minute completely dramatises labour and only shows stories that have either a cliffhanger or emotional twist - you rarely see a low risk mum go in, give birth and be discharged home the same day with no problems!

ohdearymemumof3 · 30/04/2019 20:06

I think OBEM is good and useful because you might not have a straight forward in and out labour and birth Smile

Sandrine1982 · 03/05/2019 21:35

Do you speak French? If so, I'd recommend the programme "La maison des maternelles" - very interesting and insightful, and all episodes are freely available on YouTube.
