I dyed my hair all through my three pregnancies and never had a problem:

I’m dying my hair. Everything I’ve read says it’s safe.

4andAbit · 27/04/2019 20:53

Yes every thing I've read has said it's safe but alot of people are shocked when I say I am

Iv always died my hair while pregnant. Even got it stripped with bleach at a hair salon while pregnant. Its fine. X

SurreyisSunny · 27/04/2019 21:08

Pregnancy is hard enough without having to deal with grey hair! 😉

NotSoThinLizzy · 27/04/2019 21:09

If you're really worried wait until after 12 weeks then all the important bits have grown. You could use things like semi permanent it has less chemicals

Sessy19 · 27/04/2019 21:27

The NHS states that it has no concerns about the percentages of the hair colours and bleached used in hair salons, although large quantities or high concentrations of the chemicals would be considered iffy.

I haven’t bleached since I conceived, I usually bleach to the scalp. I’m 12w. I worry about how the bleach will effect my v sensitive pregnancy skin.

Heymummee · 27/04/2019 21:30

I think it’s a common misconception not to dye your hair whilst pregnant hence why people might be shocked, but everything I’ve read as well as the NHS guidelines show it’s not a concern.

Angelinthenightx · 27/04/2019 21:39

Im waiting until after 12wks ,also do a patch test just incase.

Pppppppp1234 · 27/04/2019 21:40

My hairdressers said the guidance is that it’s fine as long as there isn’t direct skin contact?

MsSquiz · 27/04/2019 21:50

I would definitely recommend doing a patch test (if you have previously been lax at this) in case your skin has become more sensitive due to your pregnancy.

I'm 5+5 today and was going to wait until 12 weeks to dye my hair, but I'm pretty sure I'll have 50% grey by then! 🙄

Passthecherrycoke · 27/04/2019 21:51

It’s fine, tell those questioning you it’s outdated advice based on now unused ingredients. Don’t let your hair go to shit, pregnancy is bad enough 🤣

MyDcAreMarvel · 27/04/2019 23:37

I would but only after the first trimester.

Sessy19 · 28/04/2019 06:54

Hormones tend to change the way the dye takes in many women. I’ve known several women who report their hair was in the bouncy soft and luscious stage, they dyed and it turned course and unmanageable!! 😳

snowflakeeel · 28/04/2019 07:17

I had it done yesterday, also 6 weeks pregnant. I started going grey at 17 (not just the odd 1 or 2 grey hairs) so as you can imagine I don't like leaving it too long. I've never had any issues but I have heard that hormones can affect colour. I've no idea if this is possible....could you ask them to test a portion of hair before committing?

SilverGiraffe7 · 28/04/2019 07:35

As a pp said, I thought it was more about how your hair takes the dye rather than any risk to baby. You may find it doesn't turn out how you're used to it turning out!

Bunnybaubles · 28/04/2019 09:26

I'm 27 weeks and just been to the hairdresser to have my hair dyed, again. Hairdresser said it's completely safe to dye your hair throughout pregnancy, only issue is that it can be a little harder for the colour to take. I haven't had any issues tho.

Reastie · 28/04/2019 14:14

My hairdresser has refused to do my usual permanent hair dye and has said they are only able to do foils where th dye doesn’t touch the scalp Confused . I don’t want to go elsewhere and I’m too scared to do a home kit. Hairdresser suggested a temporary hair colouring spray that washes out to cover the grey. I’m trying to rock the grown out dye grey roots look for another 2 months until I have baby and can finally get my roots done.

Bunnybaubles · 28/04/2019 15:34

@Reastie that is strange your hairdresser is refusing. I've had permanent colour as well as highlights done 3 times since becoming pregnant and not had any issues. My hairdresser was very reassuring that it is perfectly safe. I wonder if it's the particular product your hairdresser is using?

I used semi permanent box dyes throughout my last pregnancy, colour took lovely and had no issues at all. Decided to treat myself this pregnancy Grin

Reastie · 28/04/2019 15:36

Bunny apparently quite a few hairdressers refuse to do it. Tbh I think it might be a case of insurance or unwarranted unfounded concern.

Rememberallball · 30/04/2019 22:04

I had my hair coloured today using all over tiny. My hairdresser asked me to wait till after first trimester to have it done but, if I couldn’t wait, she would do some foils to add colour. She said it’s because their salon insurance can be risk averse so do like to do pregnant women even though the NHS advice is there is little to say it is unsafe. Also, additional hormones can affect how our skin reacts to hair dye so you should have another patch test even if using the same products you’ve always used. She commented my hair is in great condition and has really grown in the time since she last saw me!!

Darayan20 · 30/04/2019 22:26

Haven't even used nail polish during my pregnancy if you can avoid it then why take the risque

Darayan20 · 30/04/2019 22:27

We surely didn't go to the same websites

Firsttimeuser12 · 30/04/2019 23:28

NHS website says its perfectly safe...

Noneyerbuisness11234 · 01/05/2019 12:56

Iv dyed my hair the whole way through this pregnancy 35+5 now but with me being blonde the toner didn't really take so blonde looked brassy but 2-3 toners it calmed down lol
