Hi, I'm 33 weeks and in the process of packing my hospital bag. I know all of the basic things I need to pack (I think) but I was wondering if there was anything you were so glad that you packed or anything you didn't pack and wish you had?

Thanks!

Lots of great suggestions.

As it's impossible to know how long you will be in for, I packed a smallish bag for overnight (not much space on the labour ward) then had a larger bag with extra clothes for me and baby, more snacks, big pack of nappies, big pack of maternity towels and left it in husbands car - then had everything on hand to top me up when I ended up in for 4 nights!

If you don't have a car maybe extras packed/laid out at home that will be easy for your partner to grab and bring along.

Good breast pads whether you plan to breast feed or not. Lanisoh ones were the best, more expensive but well worth it. Cheaper ones itched and were too small to absorb much.

Pyjamas. I didn't intend to stay in but ended up having to. I was going home in pjs anyway as they were the most comfortable clothes I owned at the time.

Also glad I packed flavoured water and Haribo. After 9 months of Hyperemesis, being able to eat and drink properly was the best thing. I'd not been able to have either of those for months. Best thing in the world at the time

My friend insisted i took lip balm. Gas and air and just general huffing and puffing dries your lips out x

Big blue Ikea bag. Dead handy to pile all your stuff in. I had an induction and was on the ward for 28 hours before I went down to delivery. DH just piled all the stuff into the ikea bag rather than pack it all into my bag.

I was the queen of lists...I had a bag for me, a bag for the baby, a bag for DH, a bag for snacks, a drawer of essentials in case I was in hospital for a little while. The Ikea bag was the most useful thing I packed!

Less socks (I didn't wear them at all) and more knickers.

A towel.

More breast pads.

A book.
