OK, i know i keep posting about baby movements etc, but i want to hear of other larger ladies' experiences of movements before i pester my midwife.

Basically, I hardly ever feel any movements now, and the bubbles i used to feel are practically non-existent.

As a larger lady, how many weeks was it before you felt proper movements, rather than "was that wind or what?" movements?

If i haven't felt anything by the end of today i'm going to get in touch with my MW as i've had a week off and am now back at work, but i normally feel movements at work so we shall see.

Thanx in advance!

I never felt my baby move till gone 25 weeks ish. But at 39 weeks now he doesnt stop.
It is probably nothing to worry about but it is always better to be safe than sorry and get it checked out. You would feel awful if something was wrong and you ignored it.
Good luck and dont get too worked up over it xx

Budababe · 16/07/2007 11:34

I don't remember feeling a lot of movement (He is now 6) but do remember the hiccups!

Hi,

I am a larger lady (size 24) and have been feeling definite kicks from week 20 (am now 34 weeks). I felt fluttering from 16 weeks but these turned into quite big kicks around the 19/20 weeks stage.

It may depend on where your placenta is as if it is at the front of your tummy it could be absorbing all of baby's kicks so you wouldn't be able to feel them. Mine is posterior so have been getting the full effect for a while now.

mad4girls · 16/07/2007 12:34

hi RG
i had a quiet week not last week the one before and was thinking was it coz i am fat, but then regrtetted moaqning about no mobement as it had a disco for 3 days and nights solid think it must have been something i ate, but gone quiet again the last few days, seems to come in bursts depending on where s/he is lying, i also have a large fibroid which they said may hide some movements, not sure where placenta is hoping they tell me on thursday my scan

dont worry i go seem to go through this every other week, thinking i havent felt anything for ages then ill have a spurt of moevments for a few days, it just wants to be awkward i think

LucyK1978 · 16/07/2007 13:25

From what I have read, it also depends on which way the baby is facing. You have more nerve endings on your front so when the baby is facing outwards you will feel it more. If your baby is facing your back and kicking 'inside' then you won't feel it as much.

I am a size 16-18 pre-pregnancy and it varies a lot from day to day as what I feel. Now at 23 weeks I feel something pretty much every day, but this is only quite recent. The first definte movements were at week 19 but then it stopped for a few days so can only presume it turns around a lot! Maybe we should just enjoy the quiet days before baby-disco-fever sets in and keeps us awake every night!!

Good luck if you call the MW - try not to worry as it is sure to be perfectly fine, but if you are concerned then of course you must get it checked out.

RG with my first[ds] I was around 22wks before I felt anything that I could say oh yes that was him. With DD1 I was about 18wks and DD2 I was about 20wks. I remember my 20wk scan with ds and he was flipping around etc and I couldnt feel anything, then I went back 2wks later and I could feel him. Funnily enough I felt him last yet he was my biggest baby at 9b1oz as both the girls were 6lb14ozs.

PurpleLostPrincess · 16/07/2007 14:14

Hi RG,

I felt movements every now and then from about 14 weeks but never anything regular. It wasn't until at least 22ish weeks that she started moving noticably at least once a day for me. I'm 30 weeks now and she has definitely got a pattern of awake and sleep times. Up to about 27 or 28 weeks though, we would have a few days of her being very quiet and I would get really upset, then she'd be non-stop for a couple of days! I'm a size 22/24 and I found that the problem with my size was the midwife and her doppler - more flab to hear through !

Have you tried downing a glass of ice-cold water and lying on your side to see what happens?

Everybody is different but its understandable to get anxious bless you! Let us know how you get on...

PLP xxx

RGPargy · 16/07/2007 14:32

Well i felt one definite kick on Friday evening as I sat down, but nothing since.

Today i think i have felt a couple of bubbles, but i cant be sure. I quite often drink cold water, but normally only at work, which could be why i thought i felt more at work than at home.

One thing i can feel tho is the position of the bump when i go to bed. I lay down and sometimes the bump can be really prominent and i can feel something long and hard (yes, in my tummy, not under the duvet!!) I'm assuming that this is actually the baby i'm feeling and if so, could it be that he/she is facing backwards, which is why we can feel this big long length? I know it sounds like i'm writing a pr0n novel, but i really am talking babies here, honest!!

Oh and i should point out that i felt more bubbles earlier on than i do now! Is this normal??

Hi, everyone is different, but if you are worried check with your midwife. I'm a size 22/24 and felt bubbles from 11 weeks, and last few weeks definate kicks. i even saw my tummy move yesterday and dh has felt them. I'm 25 weeks now. But this is no 2 and apparently second babies can be felt sooner. A (much) slimmer friend of mine didnt feel anything until 26 weeks, so as i say everyone is different. I often feel a lot of movement when i have full bladder, the babe seems to use it as a trampoline - a very strange sensation.

silkcushion · 16/07/2007 22:49

RG

I'm a size 18-20. I felt bubbles from about 18 weeks. Definite kicks or prods daily (or more accurately nightly) now for some weeks.

At my yoga class tonight tho there was a girl who was 23 weeks (week behind me) and not only could she feel it internally she could see it externally and her DH could feel it.

That's not happened to me yet - probably cos of the flab in the way.

Think that being overweight is also the reason why people don't know for sure whether I'm pg. I definitely have a pg bump but i guess my fat bottom evens it out and people wouldn't want to guess and get it wrong!

RGPargy · 17/07/2007 10:33

See, this is wear my concerns lie. I have felt bubbles from about 14 weeks, but now i dont feel bubbles hardly at all, and THAT is what is worrying me! I dont feel kicks except one that i felt on Friday, and then i felt a kick about a month before that, so they're not regular in the slightest! I am going to phone my midwife today and have a chat with her to see what she thinks. I'll keep you posted as to her recommendations.

Hey RGPargy, I had a similar experience, I started feeling bubbles popping at 17 weeks exactly, and for about a week I'd feel a few, especially when I was in the car for some reason. Then at my 20 week appointment the consultant said "have you been feeling any movement?" and I said "yes, from 17 weeks" and he said "No, you haven't"

BUT what I remember was there was a quiet period of about two weeks from 18-20 weeks where I felt no bubbles/movements, then after my 20 week appointment they started up again. I think he was lying with his feet towards my spine and that's why I didn't feel anything then.

The kicks etc weren't hard enough to be felt from outside until about 25, 26 weeks, but from 20 weeks onwards I started to feel regular little swishy pokey sensations, but at first I had to sit and really "feel" for them, like listening, you know?

I'm sure everything's fine, they like to keep you guessing. I would try what somebody else said, a glass of cold water or something sugary like lucozade, or stimulating like chocolate/coffee, then lie down somewhere and "listen out" for him moving.

And as someone said your placenta might be on the outside wall of your stomach, so that might why you haven't felt much so far either.

RGPargy · 17/07/2007 11:25

Thanx Bananabump, you have put my mind at ease quite a bit! I'm glad i'm not the only one to have gone/be going through a "quiet" patch.

I think out of reassurance and for my own peace of mind i will still give the MW a call, just so that i can hear it "straight from the horse's mouth", IYSWIM.

Thanx for all your reassurances, ladies! Sorry to be so paranoid! You'd think i've never had a baby before, wouldn't you?!!

OP posts:
silkcushion · 17/07/2007 23:29

hope mw has reassured you. I agree with Banana that it must be to do with position of baby.

During one scan the sonographer was saying "ooh you must have felt that - she flipped right over" and I didn't feel a thing. This was at 22 weeks.

Let us know how it goes.

RGPargy · 18/07/2007 15:32

I have held off calling the MW (feel like a PITA if i call her). Last night i felt a deffo movement and then today i have been feeling quite a few wiggles. No kicks yet, but it's movement nonetheless so my mind has been put at ease.

Thanx for your support and encouragement ladies!!
