Subchronic haemotoma and loss of waters 24 weeks

Hi all just wanted to put my journey on here and maybe give some people in a similar situation some hope and also myself as I’m still unsure of what the outcome will be for our little boy. I’m 24 weeks +2 days, I have been in and out of hospital sine 17 weeks pregnant due to heavy bleeds caused by a subchronic haemotoma, Touch wood the bleeding has now stopped with no bleeds for over 12 days which is the longest we have managed. They explained to me that bleeding could cause miscarriage, rupture of the amniotic sac (PPROM) or early labour, we’ve also had episodes of intense contraction pains and was sure we had lost our little boy on a number of occasions. Its been hell so we feel very lucky to get to the 24 week mark as our baby is now classed as viable meaning if baby did arrive they would try to save him. At 24 weeks I lost my waters I was soaking pads I knew what was coming, our scan yesterday confirmed our baby has minimal fluid, which just left me and my partner absolutely devastated. They’ve started my antibiotics and steroids to strengthen my baby’s lungs in case he makes an arrival. We are so scared for our little boy, not knowing how he will cope with no water or how he will do if he’s born this prematurely :( the only hope I can take from this is that our baby has been fighting for the past 7 weeks so we have to too, does anyone have any advice or been through the same? Thank you

What a nightmare for you. Thinking of you. Every day your baby gets stronger.

Angelinthenightx · 25/04/2019 12:32

One of my babies was born at 28wks she had a hard labour which made her have a disability but i know babies born at 24wks that have had a good outcome and have been fine. Its scary but the hospitals are amazing.x

Kirstin10 · 25/04/2019 16:23

So sorry to hear that :( I’m so scared of the labour process too if he’s so fragile but they’re not mentioning a csection at all xx

I don’t have experience of your condition but I had a very poorly baby at 29 weeks, we didn’t expect her to survive (had a thread about it at the time), the doctors were amazing and were able to second guess many things before they even happened, and when on the ventilator she had 1 staff member sat with her 24/7 so I felt she was as safe as could be. The baby that was next to mine in NICU weighed 545g and although it took a long time I no he went home which I think is amazing. Are you already at a larger hospital with an appropriate neonatal ward or will they have to transfer you if you go into labour?

Hi Kristin 10
I can relate to you totally hun, I’m currently 29 & 3 days, at 7 weeks I too was diagnosed with sub chronic heamatoma which lasted 8 weeks....following the stress, worry & discomfort of that, at 27 weeks my waters ruptured & im still leaking amniotic fluid today, I visit the hospital twice weekly for baby to me monitored, bloods taken & swabs for infection because I was told that if an infection occurs I will be bought into hospital for a c-section.....
It’s easy for anyone to say try not to stress but that’s the most difficult part (for me anyways) as I’ve had 2 previous miscarriages at 6 weeks and this little man will be my first child,
All I can say is stay positive, check in at your local hospital as often as you need to for peace of mind....+ you can arrange to see your midwife for Doppler test ( to hear baby’s heartbeat ) to if you have any doubts about baby’s health/movements.....
Take care and rest up x

Hey, sorry you're going through such a scary time. The good news is they know, they will do everything they can to prepare baby for life outside the womb, the steroids etc. The journey for a 24 weeker is a tough one, but you will already know that. Everyone will tell you it's a rollercoaster and it really is but the best thing you can do right now is take every day as it comes.

My first was born at 24+6, I didn't have the broken waters before so I can't relate to that but they also didn't know i was in labour until he was coming out so i had no steroids or anything. He came home on his due date, he is 9 now. I may be wrong but as far as I'm aware they make a judgement call on what is safest for a 24 weeker delivery wise at the time when they need to be born.
If you have any questions that I might be able to answer then feel free to ask :)

I’m currently getting transferred to jessops at Sheffield with a very good NICU so hopefully it will be the best place for us x

Wishing you best of luck @Kirstin10 your local to me, I am due to give birth in Rotherham. I've heard it's an amazing team at Jessops so you are in the best hands 💗

Have you got any placenta problems? Only reason I ask if I have a major placenta préavia with a haemorrhage on top of cervix under placenta which is being monitored.

Xx

Kirstin10 · 26/04/2019 08:07

Octobergirl91-sorry not sure if I’m replying individually here as it’s showing all my replies at the bottom! They think my haemotoma was cause be a slight placenta abruption, I’m at Rotherham waiting to be transferred tbh it’s been hell for me there, I believe I lost some water a couple of weeks ago but my consultant refused to believe me and went and over rid another doctor who put me on antibiotics and stopped them, safe to say I went nuts and demanded them to be prescribed again! Thank god I did this because me and my baby could have been in big trouble especially now with having no waters left xx

JuniperNarni-thank you for your words of home it’s a very scary place to be in, I’m just so worried with the lack of water how he will cope in there, also scared of any difficulties he may face through lifebis he is born this prematurely, it’s so hard not to worry, I’m glad everything worked out for you xx

Hi Kirstin-
My daughter was born at 28 weeks. Spontaneous labour, but a history of pearly babies. They tried to tell me I wasnt in labour, I insisted I was so had the steroid shots just in case and started bleeding out in full blown labour ten minutes after the second shot ( I told them I was...).

My daughter flew NICU and came home 10 weeks after. Minimal oxygen, she only had assistance breathing for a few days and a couple of times after that. She would have been home sooner but she had to get to a certain weight. She had one incident with a distended stomach and they were talking about operations until she did an almighty fart (and a good hour of pooting after that) and was fine.

Shes now 8 1/2 and is perfect: no disabilities, no asthma, learning delays, hearing eyesight perfect etc. In fact she is the healthiest out of my three. Preemies can be remarkably tough. I always say that if there was a nuclear fall out tomorrow, the only thing left over would be cockroaches and DD3. Wink

I know that this time is so so stressful, but youve had the steroids and are doing all you can. The one thing that kept me going and I kept telling myself when I felt like it was just never ending was 'one day this will all just be a memory'. Its true- one day you will look back and it will all just be a memory, so as hard as it is to go through right now you will be grand xx

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 26/04/2019 08:28

*early babies... not pearly babies...

jackstini · 26/04/2019 08:31

Hand holding for you Thanks
My friend had twins at 27 weeks, both weighed about 1lb and were in nicu for a few weeks. They turn 13 in June - both perfect

JuniperNarni · 28/04/2019 09:09

How are you Kirsten? hope you're doing well.

OctoberGirl91 · 30/04/2019 08:54

Hope your ok @Kirstin10 x

Kirstin10 · 05/05/2019 19:12

@junipernarni I’m doing good thankyou no bleeds for 3 weeks now still losing little bits of water but I expected that! Baby is still healthy and holding on in there, he’s very active which is reassuring ! Hoping to get me to 34 weeks then they’ll induce me! Fingers crossed I’ll keep going to 34 weeks and I won’t get an infection and have to deliver before, but feeling abit more positive and actually feel the best I’ve felt considering! 26 weeks in 2 days slowly chipping away :) thank you for asking xx

Glad to hear all is going well @Kirstin10 and hope you manage to keep baby in a lot longer and don't develop an infection🤞🏻

Make sure you take it easy! I've had my c section booked in for 36 weeks because of my placenta issues so hoping I have no further bleeds and I'm 24+3 now so I'm on the countdown. Xx

Kirstin10 · 07/05/2019 12:28

@OctoberGirl91
