Outdoor type maternity clothing

So I'm an outdoorsy person. Always walking the dogs but I work outside too.

I'm really frustrated at the lack of suitable maternity clothing!!! Am I missing something? All I can find is office type clothing and jeans and leggings! Office clothing clearly not appropriate, I HATE leggings.... I could wear jeans but with summer I'll get hot. I usually wear cotton style cargo trousers and shorts. I have an active job. I can't find anything like that!!!! And shorts I can only find short shorts which I don't feel is appropriate with my job.

Any hints of where I'm missing?

Next online has maternity chino shorts and trousers and some joggers that might work? I got some outdoor trousers for walking the dog from there but they don’t seem to have any now. Might be worth checking eBay though. Lots of maternity bargains on there

@mnahmnah the chino trousers look good! I always thought chino material was quite thick but must be wrong as they look lightweight!

@trampolinebouncer I had come across those but they look winter weight which I won't need for now anyway. Thank u though

I have just bought both the chinos and the chino shorts from next and they are both good - not heavyweight and nice and comfortable, have worn them both in the garden and walking dogs today (stupid changeable weather!)

I did feel a lot smarter than I usually do gardening/dog walking though, there definitely should be an outdoors maternity brand. I am wearing dresses most of the time as that seems to be about 90% of maternity lines for some reason, but it feels odd as when I'm not pregnant I'm rarely out of trousers.

Have you had a look at the shorts from H&M? I've just ordered some but they haven't arrived yet but they seem to have an ok range compared to other shops.

PrayingandHoping · 25/04/2019 13:31

I haven't looked at H&M online. I went into a store this morning and didn't see any maternity.

In fact I a massive shopping centre the only shop to stock maternity wear was Mothercare. I was shocked at how poorly catered for pregnant people are. I don't like buying clothes online but seems we have no choice 😡😡

I went into H&M in Liverpool and the maternity section was tiny but they have a decent range of stuff online.

Melamine · 25/04/2019 15:26

I recommend ordering H&M wear to collect in store and then trying on there and being able to immediately return if it doesn't work!

I've got the dark blue maternity chinos and chino shorts from Next, and they're really good - not too thick at all, and really comfy. I do a lot of hiking and fell-walking, and the shorts have been suitable for this. I'm also wearing running leggings. For tops, I've been wearing the maternity sports tops from Gap (think the range is called Gap Fit) - they've been great for hiking.

PatrickMerricksGoshawk · 25/04/2019 16:39

What about dungarees? The Lucy and Yak ones come in some lightweight fabrics. Probably not great for outdoor wees though Grin

I have had a similar problem, can't offer much advice as I've just made do with maternity jeans and jeggings (if I'd got a long enough top on).

I did wonder if the usual craghoppers zipoff walking trousers type of things might work with a bump band and a thin belt under the bump to keep them sitting on my hips but haven't tested the theory yet and I've only 8 weeks to go 😂

FlaviaAlbia · 26/04/2019 08:40

It's more stretchy than pure cotton, but I ended up with a few pairs of Decathlon yoga trousers with have a wide band I could unfold as a bump band.

randomsabreuse · 26/04/2019 08:46

I more or less lived in the Sainsbury's yoga pants with the big fold over waist. Also Aldi had some in their yoga event. They are thicker and looser cut than leggings but still comfortable over bump. And stayed up which was nice. Used cut off maternity leggings as chub rub shorts under dresses over the hot bit of last summer. And a pair of large men's shorts. Because I was desperate!

For bottoms, I find stuff with some stretch in a bigger size fine as long as it's fairly low waisted. Not getting on with maternity trousers as below the bump falls down and I don't like anything tight over my bump either. Generally a bit fed up with nothing fitting and only having 2 outfits though!

Spargle · 27/04/2019 05:29

I’ve loved the Mothercare yoga pants with the wide band which can be used over/under bump. Up until yesterday (32 weeks) they’ve stayed up really well, and even yesterday they weren’t in danger of showing my knickers or anything, unlike certain pairs of maternity jeans I have known...

I’d also recommend looking on eBay. They obviously stock a lot of items which are not currently available in shops, and you might get lucky if you save an appropriate search and wait patiently...

Just seen these, might be ok? www.gap.co.uk/gap/maternity-inset-panel-girlfriend-chinos/000179353004.html

PrayingandHoping · 07/05/2019 11:30

Well I've found a solution!

Now back in my normal dog walking/ outdoor working trousers with the band and I'm happy and comfortable 👍👍👍
