Evening all,

I've got my booking in appointment tomorrow morning and was just wondering what sort of questions I will be asked and what usually happens in these. I will be going on my own so want to make sure that I am prepared.

Thanks Smile

They will ask for your and the father's family medical history. Things like diabetes etc. Most will ask you about domestic violence. Carbon monoxide test (breathing into a thing) weight night blood pressure grind sample.

HJWT · 23/04/2019 19:24

@Preggers86 have you got your notes yet? If so fill out as much as possible yourself to save time tomorrow.

They will go through all of your notes make sure they are properly filled in
Blood test
Weight & height if they have the scales etc
Breath test for smoking again if they have it there.
Ask about family history.

At mine they went through a huge list of questions in the green notes. It was actually the longest appointment i had my whole pregnancy lol

Preggers86 · 23/04/2019 19:28

@HJWT I haven't been given anything as of yet. I was under the impression that I will get everything tomorrow. So far I have been left somewhat in the dark with the whole thing.

agteacht · 23/04/2019 19:30

Hi ladies
Do you go by yourself or should my partner come too?
Thanks !

Preggers86 · 23/04/2019 19:30

@mrsed1987 yea the appointment said it would take about hour. Is this where they go through the screenings that they recommend you have?

Me and partner went just because they ask a lot about both medical histories and I didn't know about my partners, they ask about diseases, twins, and any illnesses/disabilities that can be passed through genetics. They'll give you your notes and I think they take urine sample and bloods to check for no infection, full blood count and rhesus status. And yeah they make you breathe into a tube to test oxygen and pollution and crap, bmi, blood pressure. They also will confirm the date you think you conceived and then you'll receive a letter for your scan. Sorry for rambling Haha think that's it! X

xJune88 · 23/04/2019 19:38

I don't mean they take some crap haha sorry! Meant the oxygen test thing x

HJWT · 23/04/2019 19:38

@FaithEloise I was told to fill in as much as I can.

@Preggers86 Id say 2 hours!! I was there an hour and had filled in 90% of the notes myself!!

Yes they go through screenings and talk about were/ how to book your scan xx

Mine took nearly 2 hours. They weighed and measured me, did blood and urine sample, carbon monoxide test, blood pressure. They asked me a load of questions about my family history, my first pregnancy, my family's history of pregnancy, miscarriage and so on, as well as history of various illnesses. They asked my husband the same too, since he was there, otherwise I would have had to answer for him. they also went through what I needed to be doing to stay healthy, multivitamins, folic acid etc. They also went through my pregnancy notes and guidance book and highlighted the most important bits to read. we discussed my previous birth a bit, and whether I had a preference of midwife or consultant led, although that decision can be delayed if needed. In my case I went consultant led due to a few risk factors. We also discussed my mental health as I'd experienced post natal depression. She did ask me about domestic violence, she came into the loo with me to retrieve my urine sample and asked me there, away from my husband. so a lot of discussion, lots of questions. She filled out all of my notes on the computer, gave me my pregnancy notes and info books, and a bounty pack i think. and told me when my scan would be and when and where to book my next appointment.

Go through medical history yours mostly family. Blood taken. Urine sample. Blew into little machine to test lungs. Height weight. Go through explaining certain test baby can have. Whst tests you have. If from medical history you need extra care might book doctor to see you. I got high BMI so was told limited places I could give birth. Specific hospitals. Booked to see midwife again. Took about hour.
