Upset stomach

Hi, I have had 4 positive pregnancy tests, 2 on Friday and 2 today. Did a digital on Friday and a digital today, both say 2-3 weeks.
I suffer with IBS and had almost non stop bloating, gas and painful trapped wind for a couple of weeks, and some constipation.
Now in the last couple of days it's gone the other way, stomach churning and rushing to the loo all the time.
I've stopped taking Buscopan, and also can't take immodium now.
I've got peppermint tea to help with the bloating and gas but does anyone know anything that can help with the upset stomach?
I've also stopped my antidepressants so am suffering from withdrawal mentally and physically too with that

I have IBS too.

When I found out I was PG I had 2 weeks of loo rushing every time I ate anything. I googled and I was not alone, so it may well be a symptom of PG and not an IBS flare (helped me deal with it mentally).

As for what helped, I took my diet back to real bland food, lots of carbs. This seemed to help - dairy and fibre are normally my triggers so avoided where I could. This seemed to help. I also ate lots of mints which settled my top half a bit. You could also ask the GP if there is anything you could take to help but I didn't find anything obvious that could be prescribed due to the nature of what it needs to do .... but I am by no means a medical professional so a GP would know much more than me on that regards.

Did a GP recommend stopping anti-depressants? There are ones that are safe in PG which you could swap onto. Withdrawal could be contributing to your tummy symptoms too.

Hi, thank you for replying. I'm now trying to get a Dr appointment, I called this morning and she said I don't need to see a Dr and she's booked me with the midwife for the 8th of May.
But I need to see someone before then as I'm suffering from withdrawal and the antidepressant I'm on is not safe during pregnancy.
Thank you for your tips for easing the IBS, I've been eating quite a lot of yogurt as read it's really good for the development of the baby, although it does seem to make my stomach worse

xx

Definitely get a GP appointment sooner as you definitely need to get the antidepressant part sorted asap.

I have a neuro condition which I had to stop meds for (cold turkey, so I understand some of what you're experiencing with withdrawal) and could potentially become very ill very quickly without meds and they booked me my midwife appointment for 2 weeks later and said we will see you then ... I was like NOPE! You will see me tomorrow for a GP appointment, what time would you like me! The receptionists don't always understand when something is important, so do advocate for yourself :) They often hear the word 'pregnant' and assume you just need a midwife!

I ate a lot of white rice with some broccoli and some quorn (I don't eat meat) as that helped my tummy but also meant I was getting calcium, other vitamins and some protein. But experiment and see what works for your IBS xx

I phoned the dr's and she said they have no appointments available today, to phone in the morning. So annoying.

That must have been difficult, I agree, they don't really understand the importance. I've been on this antidepressant for 25 years, I was told it was fine to keep taking it when I was pregnant with my son 17 years ago, but he's autistic, and found out that this antidepressant has a link to autism, heart defects, breathing problems and other problems in babies born to mother's who take it while pregnant.
I've tried and failed countless times to come off it over the years, I get very ill mentally and physically without it but I've now had no choice but to go cold turkey on it as I can't take the risk of it affecting the health of the baby. My son went through withdrawal after he was born and was in scbu, I can't put another baby through that so have no choice but to suffer through it.

Have heard of people having to be sedated and hospitalised when coming off it, it's a horrific drug and is now banned unless you've already been on it a while.

Thank you, I'll demand an appointment tomorrow and talk to the Dr about it and the IBS xx

Knowing that, I would ring tomorrow and tell them its an emergency and you need to be seen. Be firm. If they have nothing and refuse I would call 111 as they will say you need to be seen within X hours and the surgery has to abide by it!

Wish you luck my lovely, do pop back and let me know how it goes? xx

LHMB · 23/04/2019 15:40

Thank you. I called 111 for advice and she said to get an appointment as soon as I can as this particular antidepressant is so bad that to just stop taking it can be life threatening! She said many antidepressants are fine to stop and you can battle through the withdrawal symptoms but this one can severely impact your health.
Problem is it's extremely dangerous to an unborn baby too.
I'll get an appointment first thing tomorrow.

Thank you, I will xx
