Going on holiday 8-9 weeks pregnant

Hi everyone,

I'm getting married in three weeks time and my fiancé (then husband!) and I are going off to Greece four days after for our honeymoon.

I'm currently 5+1 and all going well, when we go away I'll be between 8-9 weeks along.
Obviously when we get insurance I'll have to declare that I'm pregnant but what else do we need to worry about?
I have done some research about the hospital on the Greek island we are going to (which incidentally has very good reviews) and how far away it is from the hotel etc.
Has anyone else got any recommendations?
I'm planning on seeing my GP before we go about something else but I will ask them as well.

Thanks for reading! All answers appreciated. 😊

Congratulations!! The only thing I can think of is that you might be more tired than usual and might feel sick. So my recommendation would be to listen to your body and rest when you need to. And although we would all love to eat healthily when pregnant, if you feel you can only manage ice cream / melon /chips / whatever, don't beat yourself up over it!

Oh and maybe stay away from cats? Toxoplasmosis?
There's a book calledExpecting Better by Emily Oster available on kindle that debunks all the "pregnant women shouldn't" myths

You don't need to mention being pregnant on your insurance. It's not a medical condition. I know - I checked when we went to the USA when I was 23 weeks.

If you won’t have had a scan by then you could consider having an early private scan to be sure that it’s in the right place etc. Just to make the holiday more relaxing.

SurreyisSunny · 21/04/2019 18:14

I’d recommend a private scan so you know (about £400/500). I understand Greece has the highest incidence of food poisoning in Europe so be super careful.

You may get bad morning sickness by this stage so think about what you can take to help.

Congratulations on both your pregnancy and wedding.

DameSylvieKrin · 21/04/2019 18:33

I don’t think a private scan is quite that expensive?

SurreyisSunny · 21/04/2019 18:43

@DameSylvieKrin I’m working on the basis of a colleague who had a scan last month in Harley St. I’m sure there’s much cheaper options (I’ve found a £59 scan for gender reveal)

TokenGinger · 21/04/2019 18:46

A private scan is about £40-50 in Manchester.

Thanks everyone!
It doesn't sound like there is too much. The food stuff is just the same as here. I'm not mad and seafood anyway so will avoid that and drink the bottled water.
I wasn't planning on getting an early scan. There isn't really a convenient time as I travel down to the wedding destination at the 7 week mark, will be sorting everything out, get married at the 8 week mark and then we go away straight away.
As bad as this may sound, I would rather not know. I can't imagine the day before our honeymoon being told that the baby was not going to survive or something like that.
This is my first pregnancy and I'm just going to roll with the punches in that regard! 😊

Thanks again, really appreciate it.

@RLI1105 I'm sure it'll all be fine, that's a great attitude to have 'roll with the punches'Smile Enjoy your honeymoon.

Like you mentioned, stick to bottled water, wash all fruit and veg yourself, I'd avoid meat/cheeses too to be honest just incase.

Try and get to the doctor beforehand and ask for some anti sickness meds you can have on hand just incase as I'm sure sickness will hit soon enough.

PBobs · 22/04/2019 02:46

I've never had food poisoning in Greece. I can think of several European countries I'd trust less. Go and enjoy your holiday.

QuilliamCakespeare · 23/04/2019 18:32

Like PP I've been to Greece loads of times and never had food poisoning. I'd be sensible about food (no cured meats or raw eggs - even though I'd happily eat them in the UK) but don't worry too much.

Enjoy your holiday, it won't be long before they are very different!
