VBAC after failure to progress

Hello ladies this is my first post. I'm just looking for some reassuring. I'm due in August and I'm planning to go for a VBAC after i had a traumatic EMCS last time. So with my first boy my waters broke on Saturday 1 o'clock in the morning but no contractions. I was induced with pessary and a had a sweep too at 11 o'clock in the night. 3 hours later contractions started 5 minutes apart and after another 2 hours they were 3 minutes apart strong and painful contractions. 3.30 afternoon I got my first check and midwife said that I am only 1 cm dilated. I was in shock! 14h of labour and nothing happened Confused she told me that I must take a painkiller because I'm to tense and this can slow down the labour. So I accepted. I don't know what they give me but put me to sleep in a minute. After 4 hours I got another dose of the same medicine and put me on oxytocin...still 1 cm dilated. 12 o'clock had another check and I was 3 cm dilated. So 2 cm in 5 hours wit oxytocin Sad...after another 2 hours baby was in distress and I had a EMCS. I give birth Monday morning at 2:30 Smile Ended in hospital for 5 days me and my son on antibiotics because I had an infection.

So this time I'm hopping for a VBAC but to be honest I'm a bit afraid that I'm going to fail again. Is anyone of you that had a successful VBAC after FTP? Would be very reassuring for me to hear some nice stories Smile

Look at the positive birth company FTP. It’s very enlightening!

I had a very similar first experience and have actually decided to go for an elective this time as a result although I've agreed with the consultant that if I go into labour spontaneously before the elective and labour is progressing well I'll consider VBAC.

I understand your hesitation OP but I think it will definitely be a different experience as they simply won't do a lot of the things they did first time (for example hours on the drip) and I suspect they would move to a section much earlier on in the process if you aren't progressing.

I hope it all goes well for you!

My second delivery was a successful VBAC. My third delivery was a failed VBAC, ending in EMCS under general anaesthetic due to placental abruption. I'm glad I had the VBAC experience of a normal delivery, although I found the pain rather difficult to cope with since I was on an oxytocin drip to speed things up. At the end of the day though I'm grateful for all my children, however they came in to the world. So my advice would be to hope for the VBAC but accept that even if it doesn't happen, that's still okay.

Yes I will definitely not accept any kind of induction this time because the risk is too high and I had already the experience of oxytocin...the worse pain ever!

I had a failed induction ending in EMCS due to ds's position (posterior brow that progressed to posterior facial) I didn't get past 4cm after 36 hours of contractions. With dd I refused induction, agreed to ELCS if I didn't labour spontaneously by 10 days post due date. Spontaneous labour at 40+3, 12 hour labour and successful VBAC Smile

I'm happy for you 😊 this is what I'm hoping for too...spontaneous labour otherwise

I never thought, after my experience first time around, that I'd have a vaginal delivery. In fact, after dd was born I kept telling dh "I just pushed a baby out!" as if he didn't know Grin
I just want to give you hope that it can happen despite your first experience.

Georgiana2 · 20/04/2019 23:08

Haha I can imagine you were happy and shocked at the same time 😂 pushing a baby out is not something you do every day Grin thank you for sharing your story I really appreciate 😘
