Heartburn / Reflux

6 months pregnant and suffering from very bad reflux/heartburn. It gets worst around 9pm at night I feel like something is stuck in my throat and keep non-stop burping (poor hubby!) almost to the point I gag but not being sick (shall I make myself sick? Would that help?). I take iron x2 daily so might be that but have moved my second dose of iron earlier in the day to see if that helps. Also try not to eat past 6pm, and not even hungry as this burping/reflux keeps my appetite miles away! I want to make sure I eat well for the babies but the reflux is awful. Can I take Renees? Also at night it wakes me up bang on around 2am almost feeling I am gonna be sick but just need to sit up and end up sleeping (after an hour) pretty much sitting up with pillows. Any tips? I would like to be able to eat and also get some good sleep before babies arrive! Could it be my diet? We eat well (husband is obsessed with healthy eating) and I occasionally cheat with a pastry or strawberry 🍓 jam (which is my pregnancy obsession!) any ideas? Would a fizzy drink or soda water help or make it worst? I drink tones of water like 2litres a day!!

Try Gaviscon it works well for me and was approved by my GP, nurse practitioner and also triple checked with the pharmacist. They can put it on prescription for you if it's ongoing

Sympathies, I have had it bad enough to make me sick and to put me off sleeping (GP reluctant to prescribe, though!). You can take Rennies etc, I got on better with remegel as they are chewy rather than chalky. But they only deal with what's there, if you want to try to prevent it getting worse gaviscon is the way (I hate the liquid so use the tablets, they are a bit grim but they do generally work). My GP told me to buy Peptac liquid which is basically cheap gaviscon, but I can't drink the liquid without gagging.
I haven't narrowed it down to particular foods but if I get a bit constipated (tmi) that makes it worse. They say sleep propped up with cushions but I was also advised to actually prop the end of the bed up because pillows mean you're squashing your insides up more.
Have to say it's been a bit better lately (31 weeks now) but I can tell where baby is lying by if I've got indigestion or not, bless the little cherub 😂

I use the wilko ones. Taste so much better than gaviscon imo but then I don't really like mint. Or the texture. But yes, Rennies should be fine. I had no problems with them during my last one.

Forgot to say if you've got a more sympathetic GP there are two different things you can get on prescription (as well as gaviscon) but I'm sure someone else will know more about that than me

I used to wake up doing an actual little sick in my mouth 😷 double action gaviscon was the only thing that worked for me. It's utterly miserable, and you have my sympathy Thanks

If it helps, it stopped the minute my DC was born!

I have omeprazole on prescription, it's amazing!
