Dental implant when pregnant

I am scheduled to have the dental implant surgery next Friday, but have since found out I am pregnant and will only be 5+4 next Friday.

Does anyone know if it's ok to go ahead with the appointment? I have tried looking it up online and found conflicting information - some day it's fine, some say fine after the first trimester. And obviously now with the Easter weekend, I can't call the surgery until Tuesday so just wondered if anyone knows anything about it?

Ring the dentist and ask. I think the answer is no since you'll need codeine to numb the site

They can use a non adrenaline LA.
Some usually ask you to take a one off dose of antibiotic when you go on before they numb you up and a anti inflammatory pain killer, so they can get to work for when you go home. Than regular pain killers you would take for a headache should be sufficient to manage the pain.

I cant see why you wouldnt be able to have one whilst pregnant, but I suppose it's up to the discretion of yourself and the dentist. They will run through all the risks with you anyhow.

Ring the dentist and inform them, normally, I take xrays when placing dental implants so your placement may not be possible.

I've had this and it did involve a fair few x-rays. Went for my annual check up with them at 14 weeks and they wouldn't x-ray me then once I'd told them I was pregnant. I'd call and see what their policies are and if its an area that will need much x-raying?! Also how are you feeling? As can tell you from experience that it was a miserable few days after having dental implants and you're limited on what you can eat, so if you're already battling with nausea and sickness you might want to postpone? Don't think it would be too ideal to get vomit in the area, last thing you need is an infected implant!

Thanks for the replies. I've called the surgery and she's going to check with my dentist this afternoon and call me back.

I've been having lots of treatment, so they did say they're fine not to do a 3D scan as they have very recent x rays (taken the week before I conceived!)

So far, I've been fine, with no nausea or sickness, but I know that could change... I'll wait to see what they say and go from there

That's great, but how would, you feel if there was a complication and an X-ray was required? Would you consent to it or would you rather not be in a position to have to decide? Is the surgeon happy to confirm that an X-ray would definitely be not required, even if things don't go as planned or they need to check things, or willing to take the risk without potential x rays? Have a good chat with the surgeon.

I’ve had 2 dental implants! I would say to delay the procedure, in both my implants at the dentist uses X-ray to check the implant is in the bone- I don’t see how they could do it without a X-ray.
Also they have to give anti biotics as risk of infection is so high after.
