Swelling during pregnancy - 29 weeks

Hello, I'm 29 weeks pregnant and for the last week to now my feet have been heavily swollen (no pain) but I've noticed my calves also look a lot bigger. I don't know what to do. This is my first pregnancy and I'm scared they will never go down or I will struggle to lose the weight afterwards

It's just water retention. I held onto my swelling for a while after ds, but then I joined sw and the water retention immediately went

Have you seen your midwife recently? Sudden swelling can be a sign of pre-eclampsia so I would call your midwife for a bp and urine check.

If all ok and it is just swelling then it will eventually go down after the birth. Elevate your legs where you can. I found soaking my feet in cool water helped a bit too.

Water retention and associated swelling is normal, especially in the third trimester. For weeks with dd I couldn’t fit into any of my shoes as my feet had swollen so much! But sudden swelling or accompanied with other symptoms (eg headache) can be a sign of pre eclampsia so if you’re worried check with your mw. It will go eventually! Things like standing for long periods will make it worse.

Thank you, I have seen my MW since and she has ruled out Pre-eclampsia as they do go down when I rest. It's just difficult at work as I can't elevate them as high as they need to be. Thanks for your advice :)
