IVF : Irregular cell division (Cleavage) of embryo

Hi Ladies,

I just wondered if I could get some advice? I've just done my first round of IVF. One embryo divided irregularly early on (from 1 to 4 cells) but has now made it to blastcyst stage and apparently looks good (grade A/B). I have been advised to freeze it and done that.

I'm worried that the early irregular cell division might indicate some chromosome abnormalities, and can't really find any information on this. I wanted to see if there were any mums out there who had transferred embryos with this irregular cell division that led to healthy bouncing babies? Mine would be transferred later via a FET cycle.

I've read so much recently on here about the IVF journey and it has been an amazing source of information at a difficult time - thanks to everyone who has shared their stories.

From what I've read during my last ivf cycle the embryo can "correct" itself - since they've graded it AB I would say it's pretty good quality

Thanks so much miracleon13th! I read something similar that seemed to say if the irregularity wasn't too severe, there could be some correction (isn't the body amazing..?!) I also read something else saying that this cleavage abnormality could lead to a lower chance of implantation and higher chance of miscarriage.

So really just looking for any "success" stories out there before thinking of embarking on a FET cycle with just this one embryo. I know it's a long shot with this particular fact pattern, but thought I'd give it a whirl, as there doesn't seem to be much that Mumsnet doesn't know about...:)

How did they grade it? Through Caremaps with PGD or by caremaps / looking at it? If the former then you might have nothing to worry about. If the latter then that doesn’t mean it’s any good; many women have chromosomal issues with seemingly A grade embryos!

As it’s the only embryo I suggest go for it. Then if required next time put yourself through the L1/L2 (including karyotyping) tests. Karyotyping can find specific conditions (your consultant can help name the common ones that cause irregular cell division) so you can see if you and your partner have those genes. I personally think these tests are worth their weight in gold and can save thousands in case of a failed cycles.
