Low-lying placenta/Placenta previa

Had my 20-week scan today which showed that my placenta is anterior (expected - the movements I've been feeling have been faint) but also that it's partially covering the neck of the womb.

I've been booked in for a scan at 32 weeks to see if it's moved, and the midwife didn't mention any special measures I have to take (although she's noted 'abstain from sex' in my notes), but has anyone else had this? And if so, did yours move eventually?

Midwife seemed super-breezy about it, but reading about it online has got me a little freaked out tbh!

I had it it had moved by 32 week scan and deliver d naturally. Only special measures are I think if it hasn't moved by 32 weeks you may start discussing planned C section. It's really common though and I think in about 90% of cases it will have moved by 32 weeks

Yes I have a major placenta previa covering the whole of the cervix it sat on the top of it with an area of bleeding between placenta and cervix according to scan.
I currently 21+4 mine was detected at around 15 weeks when I had a bleed. I have to see my consultant soon for further follow up scans from 28 weeks and also gotta have an MRI scan as this is baby No3 and as they are worried about placenta accreta because of my scar tissue from precious section.

I have been on pelvic rest I am off it now and no heavy lifting or sex

Take it easy x

Thanks both - trying to take it as easy as possible, fingers crossed it resolves! @OctoberGirl91 I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes ok

I had placenta previa and it did move a bit but not enough to deliver naturally so I had to have a c section. In my case I had to go back for about 4 scans from 32 weeks onwards and have an internal examination before they decided on a c section. But it was fine and didn't cause me too much worry during my pregnancy. I didn't experience any bleeding but I know this is common so try not to panic too much if you start bleeding, just contact the hospital for their advice ASAP.

We were also told no sex!

I had this with my last pregnancy (my fourth delivery).
It all righted itself by 32 weeks and I had a totally normal straight-forward delivery at 40 weeks. No sex though as well.

I've had this in two pregnancies, DS and current unborn (38 weeks)

Both times it moved completely by 32-34 weeks.

With DS it was totally covering the OS and in such cases i was told it would be unlikely to move, but it did. I was worried sick from 20 weeks - 32 because of everything I read online about bleeding and such. I had no bleeding at all and was much more relaxed this time around as I already had experience of it and had faith it would rectify itself.

Try not to worry. Chances are it'll move and you'll be clear for a natural birth Smile

@februaryblooms this is exactly me right now! I've been lucky to not have even a hint of bleeding throughout but now they've said it's a risk I'm knickerchecking like there's no tomorrow. Thanks, that has reassured me Smile

Hi I had major placenta previa with my daughter (now 9 months). Mine was spotted at my 20 week scan and it didn't move. I was checked at 32 weeks and booked in for a c-section at 38 weeks (wouldn't let me go any further with the pregnancy as it could be very dangerous if I went into labour). I don't wish to worry you but because of the position of my placenta (completely covering my cervix) it proved difficult to remove. I lost a lot of blood as they battled to save my womb. 3 hours later I was whisked to another hospital (ICU) and had a balloon inserted to to stop the bleeding. I was in ICU for 4 days and met my daughter at 5 days old. Obviously this is worst case scenario but I wish I too had been informed of the possibilities as again my midwife was very breezy too! Good luck! Smile
