Maxi dresses for early pregnancy

I'm 10w pg with a very bloated tummy, desperately seeking clothes that are loose as I can't stand anything tight around my middle (this includes over-bump things. Under-bump just fall down!).

I've been looking online for casual maxi dresses that are loose fitting, budget friendly and not flimsy summery floral ones, as it's still pretty chilly here. Maxis are my preference so I don't have to wear tights. I've not told anyone about the pregnancy yet so hoping the loose fabric will help disguise my bump as I look more pregnant than I am!

Does such a dress exist or am I wishful thinking? Please send links or pics if you have found anything good Smile

@Cosmogirl86 thank you! What kind of fabric is that?

I wouldn't describe it as particularly heavy fabric if that's what you mean! It's quite loose though which is comfortable on my twin bump, and I team it with a cardigan if it's chilly. It's more casual than the photograph suggests, though I suppose that depends on how much you glam up

I've been in txmaxx today and noticed they seem to have a lot of a their holiday clothes starting to come in, so might be worth a look

Another vote for TK Maxx. I bought some flattering maxis from TK Maxx a couple of years before I became pregnant, then wore them up until about 6/7 months! Look out for Jersey fabric - it's the most comfortable!

They have some strapless T-shirt type material maxis in peacocks for I think £12 each.

@cosmogirl86

Is it good quality? I've never heard of happymama before - all very reasonably priced but want to make sure that doesn't mean they start looking a bit tired after a few washes

Cosmogirl86 · 15/04/2019 07:41

I have 5 dresses from happy mama and I'm happy with them all. None have that transparency you get with cheaper dresses, and they wash and tumble dry well. They are much better quality than dresses from places like Primark for example.

However, they aren't perfect. The material is thin, but like I said I team it with a cardigan if cold so it's not big deal for me. They are mostly synthetic fabrics, I don't think I have one that contains cotton. If that's an issue for you, I wouldn't buy.

Overall I'm happy! It fitted my budget and the dresses themselves are flattering

I couldn’t stand any pressure on my stomach at the beginning either, and was in maternity pants around 6/7 weeks (sometimes my T-shirt was too heavy - not a fun time!).

I found that under bump jeans would stay up with braces. I hated them, but better than trousers falling down! However, Mothercare do some yoga pants which do both over- and under-bump (they have a foldable section) which have always stayed up beautifully for me. Such a good investment!

I found that my stomach was still very sensitive for a long time - until my bump really got going. Now, over-bump is most comfortable - I think that when it’s genuine bump and the digestive system moves out of the way, everything is just more comfortable! (I mean, apart from the other niggles you get instead - my tailbone is not at all a happy thing!)

Ooh some good suggestions here. I might try the braces thing. I was cold today so fished out an old pair of large jeans but have spent all day hoiking them up!
